Fancy dress party - 70s spy theme
Linus...42, i guess that makes me the answer... Started conversation Aug 13, 2003
I'm of to a conference next week and on the wednesday there is a 70s spy theme dinner.
I am looking for something apart from the obvious: James Bond, Maxwell Smart, Austin Powers.
another issue is that the conference is in Darwin (i live in Sydney), which is bloody hot for wearing trenchcoats, dinner suits etc.
Any suggestions greatly received!

There's Inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther Movies, but you're stuck with a trenchcoat ...
There's Columbo ... but he wears a trenchcoat too ...

i suppose i could wear a trenchcoat and hope the air conditioning works okay, and that i don't get arrested walking past the local school

Boris and/or Natasha? Number 5 or 2. Adam West (does it qualify?)
Tennis outfits (name that show).

Inspector gadget...a trench coat again .
Surley underneath these trench coats there is somewhat more pratical clothing? Just wear that and say a dodg attacked you and your coat was savages .
You could go as Harriet the Spy (yes I was sad enoug to watch that film), she only wears a stripy top and trousers
Or one of the 'Spy Kids'

Or as one of the detectives from Barney Miller - don't know if it aired over seas - bad shirt, bad tie, bad trousers.

Or as 'Our Man Flint' - white turtleneck with sleeves pushed up, white trousers, black belt, black pointy shoes. Or was that earlier than the 70's?

Hey, what's with all the heroes? How about a villain? Get a monocle from somewhere and you're instantly 70's badguy kitsch!

Damn, i knew i shouldn't have got rid of those flairs <>.
Surely there must have been spys in the tropics at some point.
I don't think the 70s part is that much of an issue

Or you could dress up how ever you like and announce to the whole room that you're a secret spy and investigating someone is the very room
