I need barrels - please help

I urgently need some plastic barrels - the five-gallon type with a screw-cap would be ideal. I need them to dispose of some environmentally unpleasant liquid, so I'm in a use-once situation and don't want to spend much money, but I need four or five. I know this is the sort of thing people have lying around and could probably beg or borrow some, but my need is a bit urgent and I need to get it sorted in a one-stop sort of way. I searched the net extensively and found nothing, no DIY, no industrial suppliers, not even any environmentally sound liquids that comes in barrels and I could just empty away immediately. Anyone out there know where I can pick up some sealable plastic containers at high volume/cost ratio with little delay? Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers,
Surrendermonkey.

Have you considered phoning your local environment agency office: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ they should have info on suppliers of waste disposal equipment etc etc - alternatively your local council might be able to help?

I did speak to them about arranging a final destination for the stuff, and it was they whose lack of "pour away" facilities has led me to this sticky impasse - they take the stuff off my hands in barrels and then I never see either again. We spoke on this subject at length and used the word "barrels" more than once - but no offer of containers was made, though every opportunity was there. Having said that, it didn't occur to me to ask outright, so perhaps I'll give them a call.
cheers.

No I'm not. If I was, it would be positively out of character to be going to these lengths in the interests of the environment...

Try looking in your phone book for homebrew suppliers - they should come up with the goods smiley - smiley

Really, if your council want barrels, they should be able to name a preferred source...tsk tsk

Silly question, but have you tried ringing around a couple of local road haulage firms...

They're the kind of company who buy motor oil etc. in drums... and maybe they might have some empties hanging around
