From todays Grauniad: "One in three workers has come close to leaving their job because of the irritating habits of their colleagues, according to the results of a survey released today."

Does this apply to you?

"room for a little one?" "Breathe in" in lifts, and "another day another dollar" "weekend soon goes doesn't it?" on monday.

Can't get a word in edgeways here smiley - erm

I used to work with a lady who, if she was a few minutes late, would run from the entry to door to her desk (all of 3 metres) and sit there puffing.

We have a chap whose girlfriend rings him on our one phone about 20 times a day. Of course he's mostly not around to actually answer it himself. In addition when he is around it's always "hello, how are you..." followed by the latest half-hourly melodrama. smiley - grr

Personally I'd get a new girlfriend if I was him, talk about demanding and intrusive...

Mostly however I don't like people chatting inanely whilst I'm busy but then there's not a lot you can do about that and in all honesty I'm probably just as guilty when I'm not busy myself smiley - smiley

Metal Chicken

Open-mouthed loud crunching of celery sticks and the like for lunch every day...

Shouting down the telephone to the extent that all those seated nearby have to put a finger in their ear to hear their own phone conversation...

from the person who does the post
1 always asking if each item should go 1st or 2nd class - and
2 checking the weight of the post to be sure it has the correct postage if anyone else has dared to do their own stamps in order to avoid irration 1

all well meant I'm sure
saving those few pence is probably important

*sighs*

It is noticeable that none of the italics have posted yet.

Who was it who worked with someone who insisted on eating cloves of raw garlic in the office?

I used to work with somebody who always left his mobile phone on his desk, switched on, while he went to a meeting or wherever. Of course, the phone was guaranteed to ring while he was away. Because it was his own phone we all reckoned that the calls might be personal, so nobody was prepared to answer it. The phone just rang and rang, and it was one of those really irritating ring tones, too. We could never understand why he didn't just switch the darned thing off if he wasn't going to take it with him. It drove us all up the wall. smiley - grr

The guy in the next office to me has a complete aversion to technology... which is a bit of a pain as his job means he's working at a computer all day every day...

Whenever he runs into a problem (about 3 times a day), he starts off by talking to himself... and huffing a lot..
10 minutes later he's swearing loudly at the computer...
10 minutes after that he finally gets around to shouting across through the doorway... I've a problem flxlphil flub a lub....!" or something like that, you can never actually understand him as he'll do this whether everyone's on the phone, in a meeting or asleep (trying to recover from a particularly good liquid lunch smiley - drunk)...

When someone finally goes into his office to find the problem, 99 times out of a hundred it's either something completely stupid, ie:

- I can't see the text on my document!!
Response - that's coz you've changed the colour of the text to white and it's on a white background!! (How he does it I'll never know!)
or

- I can't open this document - it keeps giving me a funny message every time I try!
Response - look at the bottom of the screen, it's already open (but minimised!)

The number of times I've had to explain what the three little buttons do in the top right hand corner of a window is amazing - he's forever 'loosing' the scroll bar in Word coz he plays with the size of the window!

The really annoying thing is his attitude towards computers... it's really a case of 'I don't understand them therefore I can't understand them' - no matter how carefully or how many times you explain something, doesn't matter if you draw pretty little pictures for him or use vocabulary a five-year old would understand - it goes straight in one ear and out of the other... all the more odd because apart from a mental blockage when it comes to computers the guy is incredibly intelligent and has a memory you wouldn't believe!

*True story from this morning*

This one teacher complained that she couldn't get the video to play on the whiteboard, only for me to point out to her that the reason it wouldn't play is she'd not put the tape in.

smiley - grr

If I had smiley - 2cents for every incompetant teacher who refused to remember how to do even the most basic things with technology and computers... but nooooooooo, it's easier if they have their own personal teaching assistant (read slave) to think for them. Ha, I pity them all in a fortnight.

Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream

I work in a charity shop, we have a good laugh, but there's one woman who *always* has to be the center of attention. I'll give you an example from last Monday.

I'm often the butt of the jokes, or rather my rather large tits are, they're not that big, just the others are small. smiley - smiley

(Anyhow, we have some pretty strange things donated sometimes, this was is about one of those strange things)

John walked past me, as he did so he put his hand under my arm, then holding out an artificial fun tit said "look, I've got Sandra's tit" to which Mrs 'gotta be center of attention' runs up and shouts "that's mine" with the joke now going to her! She just can't stand to be 'left out' of anything. smiley - grr

There's been no update on Lord Smooth's "The most annoying person ever!" since April, but it's a very entertaining read and relevant to this thread.

Ythika the purple giraffe - Minister for Unusual Musical Instruments

My boss is more inclined to upset his section than anyone else in the entire office. He will not stand up for us in even the smallest things and wants to be evryone's friend by joining conversations with totally inane comments.

I asked some of the guys to be a little quieter the other day. I think they may have thought they had annoyed me until I said something again recently about not being able to concentrate the other day because they were making me laugh. They thought that was pretty cool.

Speaking as a support technician at an educational institute. smiley - grr teachers just don't want to learn. If it's not in the script (lesson plan) they start to panic. Worse are those who think they know everything.

Not someone I worked with, but I used to know a guy who would page himself - purely so people would think he's someone important.
