Rescuing a damaged photograph

I'd competely forgotten that about Asteroid Lil - thanks Pastey!
I did Photoshop training when I was still at work, but I haven't been near it in over a year, so I've just had to try and work out which bits in Fireworks do the same things.
I don't know Painter - is it Maccable?
I've scanned at some enormous dpi, and even windolened the scanner glass - wow!
Currently I'm trying *not* to go back to the kitchen and peel a bit more! It's coming mostly from the bottom of the picture - I'm all te way up to my elbow now!

The picture doesn't look too bad at all, so it should be salvageable via Photoshop if the soaking/peeling doesn't come off. I'm running Photoshop 6 on my mac, so if I can be of any help give me a shout.

You could let us all loose on it, see what weird and wonderful things we can come up with
Photoshop 7 on PC, 6 on Mac and anything else you can think of...

"see what weird and wonderful things we can come up with "
I could do some seriously weird things to it with AutoCad

While the double entendre in Posting 44 was picked up on, I'm sure that the censor in pre-Lady Chatterley trial days would have wielded his blue pencil more vigorously on the one in Posting 39, which seems to have crept through unobserved.

I spotted the #39 one - made me chuckle as I delight in telling people that one of the best bits of my job is all the touching up I do!
I'm all for the "touching up " comp - Photyshop 7 here (with the simply divine 'how did we manage before it' healing brush!)

Only having Photoshop 5.5, I'm starting to feel a little inadequate here.
Though I *do* have a nice Wacom tablet, which makes Photoshop so much nicer to use. *My* touching-up is pressure-sensitive.

Photoshop 5.5?
Luxury!
Oh how I dream of 5.5, being as I am stuck with 4Lite at home.

Potholer - Is that the one that you so kindly lent to Lipsbury Pinfold and me? That was !
Update:
Overnight soaking has left only my face and the area to the left of it stuck on the glass, but that bit is still stuck fast. The water had also gone slightly cloudy overnight, and I'm beginning to wonder if the edges of the photo, exposed to water the longest, are beginning to look a bit faded and blued ou. But I can't stop now!
If I'm going to scan when the photo is released, and still wet, than it would make sense to find out now what spec the touchers-up want for their scans for the comp.
Could anybody who wishes to take part give me details of:
- preferred file format - tiff, pict, jpg whatever...
- dpi resolution for the scan (photo is small standard print size)
- What size limit, if any, there is on their destination mailbox, so I don't bounce any final results!
- Any other technical gumf that they may need
If you email this to me with an email address (which I will treat in the strictest confidence blah blah blah) to [email protected]

I just did
I had a (woman) friend who had a short term contract with a local porn site, touching up various 'bits'...quite blaze (what's the key combo for an accent on this thing?) about the whole thing

Got the email - thanks!
That was a valid point you made in the email as well:
Contestants should aim for a photo that can be printed out (Epsom Stylus Colur 760) at the largest size possible (retaining quality) to go in a new picture frame on hubby's desk.
However:
Judging the competition will be done by universal acclamation on examining jpgs displayed on teh yahoo page posted above. Casting decision will be mine
How's that?

Help
Oh help
Is there anybody there?
There was a damage spot on the original - just to the left of the rose head. looking at the original untouched scan it looks like a small rip in the paper. I've just discovered that it's expanded out int a brilliant white patch, obliterating a section of photo, and it's spreading - fast. The picture is still stuck to the lefgt of the leg of my glasses.
What doi do? Is this caused by the water? Am I going to lose the whole picture beofre it gets unstuck from the glass? Would it even be worth me 'amputating' the loosened part of the print, to save it from the White Plague?
Help!!!!

Cutting the photo might not be a bad idea - pasting back together after scanning would be easy.

Eeek, not what you wanted really.
I hate having to go into the office and missing a days natter... so, to backlog, here I've got Photoshop 6 (does that have the heal brush?) Illustrator 9, PaintShopPro 7 and Painter 5.5 (why the point 5?) and a rather nice Wacom, all on PC. At work it's like walking into a dream, surrounded by G4s and stupidly powerful PCs the joys of working at a marketing agency

Well it's nice to have something to do in your spare time away from the Post!
UPDATE:
I read Potholers comment near to midnight and headed off with my scissors. The white patch had been growing at a tremendous rate, but I was reassured to see that it had slowed riright down, while the stuck area was no bigger than a thumbprint, so I decided to give it to the morning after all.
This morning:
IT CAME FREE!
FREE AT LAST!
Hubby was still in the house so I had to wait till he'd gone before sticking it in the scanner - the damaged sections had already started to curl - I think the original picture has no future, but hopefully that won't matter...
There's no way I'd have soaked the photo like this without all your advice - THANK YOU!
