Question about eBay

Mr. Legion

Okay, this is my first time bidding for an item and I'm not sure how I'm doing. Situation is: I'm winning it at the moment, at a price of £3.20. My maximum price is £5.00. There's one other bidder. Does the fact that I'm winning it mean that his max price is less than mine and that I'll definitely get it when the time is out? ie. Is there anything I should be doing? Should I watch out for him swooping in to outbid me at the last minute?

Yes, the fact that you're winning means his max price is currently less than yours.

However, he can up his max price at any point.

There is nothing complicated to bidding on ebay. Simply put the maximum as the maximum you would be happy to pay; if you get it for that or less, you're happy. If you don't, somebody else pays more than that for it.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics, Vol2, Issues 1 & 2. Totally impossible to get here in Ireland smiley - steam, so I'm forced to turn to eBay. God only knows what terrible exchange rate I'm getting on them thanks to the irritatingly strong sterling. When will you people stop being awkward and just accept the Euro? smiley - winkeye

Ah, sniping... I love it smiley - bigeyes

I've found that bidder behaviour depends very much upon which type of market you're working in. To take my situation, I'm a collector of rare Smiths records, and in that market most of the action on the good pieces will take place in the last 30 seconds of the auction. Eight bids in that time period is not unknown smiley - wow
