Was elvis racist?

Just one final thought on the smear campaign that was waged against Elvis by the establishment.

Lies about him didn't work and pressure on the radio stations was only partly effective. He just became more and more popular. To the rigidly righteous white puritans of America, rock and roll seemed on the verge of toppling the established order.

So they had him drafted into the US army to shut him up.

Rather than fight it, he took it as an opportunity to wrap himself in the flag. With his new short haircut and neatly pressed GI uniform he became an all American hero and was promoted to Sgt in very short order. His critics could no longer safely offend him.

And so it was that the Rock and Roll Revolution gained a permanent foothold on the beaches of American culture and went on, just as the doomsayers had predicted, to unleash wanton sexuality, drugs, civil disobendience and race rioting, throughout the nation.

The King is dead. Long live the King.
