Do you ever feel you are invisible?

I do!Frequently I'm overlooked or ignored.Sometimes of course I set out to be invisible usually in situations where I know I will be horribly embarrassed. However at other times I'm present,I participate,I converse and I feel I've made my presence known.I later find that no one remembers I was there or that I said anything.Or someone makes the same point that you did and they are remembered for making that point but your comment is forgotten. It's all very deflating especially if you have been absent for some time and no one notices.
So does anyone else identify with this situation?

Very much so - it's good to hear that I'm not the only one! As a bullied small child, I sometimes tested out my invisibility by not speaking at school for several days at a time to see if anyone would notice. No-one ever did.
As an adult, I will speak out against any injustice and always ensure that I get good service, but I know that it's all an act and if I let it slip, my inbuilt invisibility will take over - sometimes I find it strange that others don't realize that.
And as soon as I relax, I'm invisible again!

I get that sometimes...it's especially wearing when people get recognition for exactly the same things you do and you get nothing.

I appear to be invisable when I'm at a shop counter..putting my change away..&..the next person is served over my head..
that is so damn annoying..just because I'm under 5ft..and taller people can reach over my head..doesn't make it ok to do so..they should either..wait a few seconds..or move to the side of me..not pass newspapers..hand fulls of crisps..&..sweets..etc..over my head as if I wasn't there..

I have a real problem with self esteem and find myself many times replying to a message and then not posting (like i almost just did with this one) because i think that what i say either isnt profound or 'clever' enough and it will be bypassed, or just plain old ignored.
I am often missed out at the bar etc because i am not forceful but i dont think in every occasion it is good to be like that. (some it definately is!)
The worst is when you put alot of effort into something and no-one notices, and then someone else just appears and everyone jumps hoops about it. Makes me feel that i shouldnt have bothered in the first place. Not that i do things for credit or glory in any situation, but a quiet thanks, or good point, Mort can do wonders. Even someone disagreeing at least acknowledges my presence!
In fact i am having a real 'may as well not exist' crisis at the moment so i was very pleased to see this thread!
I used to get it with one or two particular clients at work, they would ask the receptionist a question and she would ask for my advice which i would give very efficently to the client who would then carry on talking to the receptionist as if i hadnt spoken and the whole thing would be repeated again

I have three older sisters....I spent most of my life being known as "Such-and such's younger sister"...which is a little deflating....

firstly thankyou for posting as i had convinced myself no-one else would! ie ignoring my last post!
That is horrible, to be known as someones sibling etc, i had it a bit at school but mainly cos my brother had such a bad reputation that they were amazed i wasn't the same. So i was 'his sister that was clever, not naughty' etc. Until they got used to me and then i was non existant until i became 'the strange one'

I'm too large to be ignored..but I know what you mean..I used to get reaaly annoyed at meetings when my suggestions were ignored and then one of the male staff would say the same thing..and all the rest would go that's a good idea There are times when we all wish we were invisible though..like when you have put your foot in it..or got to the till in a shop and haven't enough money....

When I saw the subject line, I immediately thought of you Incog, so you can't be that invisible!
Doesn't everyone have those moments where you feel like you could be yelling at the top of your voice and no-one would hear?
And then you meet people that seem to fill up all of the available space with their personality, how do they do that?
So, in the spirit of not ignoring anyone (I hope):

Incog., you should join S.H.A.D.O.W.
But yes, I get ignored and talked over all the time. I have even been known to get a bit miffed about it and refuse to divulge the rest of what I was talking about after someone has interrupted me for their own burning item of information. Pah! Just means I think I must have a very boring and low volume voice, probably monotone, but I can;t tell myself

Current new person in our group is making all the suggestions for efficient work practice I have been making for the last year. I've even attempted to get some of them done myself. Now all of a sudden everything is getting done....mostly on the basis of my background work. Please may I scream??
Apart from that I am fortunately big enough and loud enough (when required) to ensure that the barstaff serve me!

My motto should be 'Accentuate the positive and disappear for the negative.'
However my experience always seems to be the other way round.Especially when I go t*ts over a*se.
