Burning cd/photo question
Mina Started conversation Apr 14, 2003
I've got some photographs and video clips that I'd like to put on a CD to keep them safe. If I use the normal 'drag files from hard drive to cd' in the cd burning software, will they go on as pictures, or 'files'? Or does it depend on the software? I've got Nero, and I've only used it for mp3s and backing up data so far.
If anyone else uses Nero, I have one other question, how do I leave the cd 'open' so that I can add more photographs at a later date? The last time I tried to add something to a half empty cd, it wouldn't let me. I don't understand this 'multi-session' thing.

If you drag and drop image files onto the CD ROM in the normal way you would when making a backup CD (i.e. open Nero -> Choose CD ROM (ISO) and then drag and drop) they will save as they would on any media. I.E. a standard .jpg will save as a .jpg. I have saved loads of stuff this way, photos, graphics etc.. and it works just fine. Just be sure you don't save them under the "Audio CD" option.
And this way normally works for me for CD-R's to. As long as the CD is re-writable, you should be able to add to it and delete from it as normal - even under the normal CD ROM (ISO) option. The only reason it has refused me adding files in the past is if
(a) There is no more room for the files,
or
(b) The CD-R has gone wrong - which happens quite a bit in my experience.
Hope this helps...

Theres an option in Nero which allows you to finalise a CD if this is checked it stops the CD being written to after the original write.

First time you're writing anything to the disc, make sure you select the "New multisession disc" option. When, at some unspecified point in the future, you want to add more pictures to the disc, select the "Continue multisession" option.

That's all very helpful, thanks! I'll have to check that finalised thing, because that's probably the problem. If I can just drag and drop that will be great, nice and simple. Only takes a second, although it takes the pc about 4 hours...

The new multi-session bit didn't seem keen to let me use it when I tried yesterday, but I'll have another go when I'm not surrounded by distractions. ie males!
