What's in Dewsbury?
swl Started conversation Apr 4, 2006
I'm going to be spending time in Dewsbury over the next couple of weeks, undergoing job training during the day and being bored in a hotel at night.
Is there anything interesting in Dewsbury?

It appears to be in Yorkshire.

Having searched, I've a feeling that the most interesting thing in Dewsbury will be you.

What a thrill !!
It's amazing how far you've got to zoom that map out before you recognise any civilisation.

'THE lucky winner of a heritage train ride from Dewsbury to Dundee and back is Peter Fisher of Dewsbury.'
Wow, lucky chap! I reckon a 'heritage' train might have limited facilities so: do you reckon they let him off for a pee at Dundee or will he have to hold it all the way back?

Peeing in Dundee would raise the collective IQ by several points I should imagine.
Thing is, Dewsbury "sounds" nice. Mental images of morning dew on rolling English Meadows etc. Then you zoom the map out and see Bradford

I only got in a few mins ago, I'm a bit bored now... I might have to go wrestle the duvet king

There is a canal branch terminus in Dewsbury and a marina where I used to live - it contains a quirky pub whose own microbrewery will not disappoint.
That's something, surely?
Dewsbury is not going to win any awards for being modern and attractive, but it is a vibrant and cosmopolitan place.
That's something too.

Wasn't it in "The Magical Mystery Tour" or in "The Yellow Submarine" where the catch phrase "It's on the Dewsbury bus" comes from?

Ah no - google tells me, of COURSE -
"It's ten miles north on the Dewsbury road"
We walked around for weeks saying that to each other in our silly school days.

It's slowly coming back to me now - "Where's the bus?" came before that.

There's also the "largest purpose-built mosque in Western Europe" - though to be fair my information could be a little out of date here.
