What's the connection between teething (in toddlers and babies) and the shift in consistency (not to mention the all-mightily powerful stench) of that which is deposited in the nappy area?
To put it bluntly why should growing teeth cause stinking squits?
My wisdom teeth certainly didn't cause the same effect....
any thoughts?

I always thought the consistency was related to the type of food and drinks consumed. As that changes over time, so will the residues.

Dug, my wisdom teeth haven't caused that problem either, thankfully...
As Marjin has said, the little one is likely eating different types of food now and that's probably a factor. I wonder if the pain and stress of teething could be upsetting the poor baby's tummy? Then again, I'm far from the voice of experience in this area...
Might I suggest clamping a clothes pin on your nose? I'm sorry, I oughtn't poke fun about such a serious dilemma.

Been there, done that!
I wonder if there might also be a link with the fact that when they're teething, babies put everything possible in their mouths to chew on & so probably ingest some things that disagree with their digestion?

Maybe the poop is stinkier beause they have added new things to their diet (such as the stuff they suck off everything they are putting in their mouths?) OK, that is probably not a really good reason. But you probably ddn't notice your squit getting stinkier with the emergence of our wisdom teeth because adult squit is already so stinky.
I am about to start my baby on solids, and I am dreading the new smells that will be coming out of his butt.
Good luck!

Look out for the food items that appear to go through unchanged such as sweetcorn. Babies & toddlers have been known to recycle such items....

Lots more dribbling would account for the squits part. Babies tend to have a diet change around the 6 months + mark - maybe that could account for the stinking bit.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to use the word squits
Liam.

Not restricted to babies and toddlers. You need to consume a few pints of Guinness and experience the effect that can have have. I doesn't bother me though, being an ex-diver, I am pretty good at holding my breath.

It doesn't matter what you feed them, the stinking squit nappy arrives alongside red cheeks and drooling. They can have the same ingredients in meals for weeks on end with no problem yet the nappy will only be the truly vile squit variety when new teeth are on the move. Interestingly, they get worse ones with molars than incisors!
Doctors claim that these nappies are due to viral stomach upsets, yet they always coincide with drooling, sleepness nights white bits showing through the gums and the need for calpol.
I reckon it may be the amount of drool that they produce or that it simply upsets their equilibrium in some way.
