Why is Dr Who not on TV?
don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear... just sing, sing a song Posted Mar 20, 2003
I want it to come back...
I mean for God's sake, I'm a bloody average 16 year old who plays rugby and cricket... and I want it back.

"So how have they managed to get the rights to put them on to video but not television?"
It's precisely because they *are* on video that they can't afford to show them on television; showing an episode on TV will kill video sales of that episode for months, as everyone who wants it will have taped it themselves. If you show a whole series, the folk who are selling that series on video will expect compensation for the loss of income.

Doctor Who could, with the right passion and care, be once more a series as successful as Buffy or Stargate. It needs money for decent special effects, but not a vast sum that will break the bank- what is most important (and was apparent whilst it was on) is IMAGINATION. All that is lacking is the backbone of a tv executive who will green light another series. They won't though. Why invest in a bold, groundbreaking sci fi series like Doctor Who when the budget could pay for 3 more series of other dull, unimaginative dramas like Cutting It or another dusty old costume drama that most people haven't heard of (Daniel Deronda, anyone?). Its sad to see that the BBC who used to have the best costume and special effects in the world has now turned its back on the most imaginitive genre- Sci Fi.

Nice flashback, Hoov. The reference to Gatiss is particularly pertinent.
