Ladies to shave or not to shave

This conversation about scents/aromas makes me mindful of a couple of things.
When the Jorvik Viking Centre opened in York, they tried to make authentic smells wherever possible, e,.g. cooking smells, desad animal smells (from hasnging poultry, rabbits etc) in the living quarters; fish smells near the harbour etc etc. However one of the exhhits was a Viking sat on a 'thunderbox' and I always remember 'New Scientist' magazine reporting something like, 'The exhibitors didn't dare put the authentic smell there, all you can smell there is the modern aroma of bleach and disinfectant'
Also, even the human animal is said to give off pheromones (volatile chemicals that attract members of the opposite sex - from a considerable distance). Apparently chemists had been trying to synthesise a chemical that would attract women to men. They came up with a compound that was quite successful to which they gave the name...

The US adult entertainments industry is one of the leading innovators when it comes to multimedia and communications technology (multi-viewpoint DVDs; bitstreamed video; secure payment systems). I wonder if they're working on Smellyvision?
(By the way...now that I've made my strident point about shaving, I'm happy to crawl back into my shell for a while. Yes...similar experiences to the Mugwump...and a light trim can offer the best of both worlds)
An observation: The male responses in this thread seem largely connected with sex, while the women are more concerned about hygeine. True?

>> are mature women better then?!
You'd better belive it, pal! I like men who know more than just how to insert Tab A into Slot B for much the same reason.

I've not contributed much so far, but here goes. The problem with any kind of depilation is that once you have started you cannot comfortably stop. Waxing is good, but painful. The benefits are that it lasts longer and that what grows back is silky and therefore harder to see and to feel. The disadvanges are that you have to wait until there is enough there to remove, and that some of it will grow back under the skin. You have to exfoliate every day to avoid that being a problem. That said, I wax my legs and underarms.
Pubic shaving is scary, and involves contortions and a mirror. The huge disadvantage is stubble, and the second major disadvantage is reactions to chemicals. Want thrush and other infections? Easy peasy! Use shaving foam. Creams are better, and last a little longer, but comprise even more frightening chemicals.
However, silky pjs or silky french knickers worn within a couple of hours of pubic shaving are - er - a pleasant private pleasure.
Regarding shared sensations - it is just, well, different. The first touch of fingers on pubic hair transmits the touch in a way which is electric, but the first touch of fingers on a completely smooth pubic area is just as electric but in a completely different way.
The only area that I am rigorous about depilating is my lower legs. That is a matter of personal preference because I have very white skin and very dark hair. This is the perfect combination for laser treatment, and I started a course but had to stop because of the price. I will definitely be continuing though because dealing with it is BORING.
Men really don't appear to mind underarm hair, though I don't have a lot there because of waxing rather than shaving. I honestly think that by the time they have you naked they just don't notice your oxters.
Useful to have the responses to fanny fashions though.

What the heck are oxters?
Ref '[Fanny Fashions' - I have yet to meet anyone who performs topiary on their P.H.'s. Does anyone trim theirs into heart shapes etc etc these days a la Mary Quant?
P.S. Question: What do you call an adolescent lagomorph?

What's a lagomorph?
'Oxters' is a Glaswegian term for armpits.

Fascinating the time hootoo researchers are prepared to put into certain subjects!
For my part, being a Woman of Maturity, these days I tend to do all of the beauty stuff for me rather than anyone else, although my significant other does have certain preferences.
Like B I do enjoy the sensation of hairlessness, although I've never been tempted to do much to the pubic area beyond clearing back the bikini area for the swimsuit season.
My problem is I have very sensitive skin. I have tried shaving, hair removal creams, waxing, sugaring, those hair plucker machines, stuff like sandpaper and the lotion which supposedly reduces hair growth. And I keep going back to the razor cos it's the only thing that doesn't bring me out in hives. Hence my reluctance to experiment down below. (Cringes as she types).
I wish I thought that my armpits and legs looked attractive enough with a full growth of hair not to have to bother with depilation, but they don't. Some women can carry ot off, but they are usually the ones who are more attractive in the first place, and the ones that the men who advocate going au naturel have in mind too. So I will carry on shaving thank you very much.
The cultural/socialisation thing does make a difference, though. I recall some American students in Germany making a big joke about how they were doing research into why German women didn't shave. They were hairy bearded sloths themselves and notably unsuccessful with women, so I suspect it was just sour grapes.

I've noticed that Greek women don't see any shame in letting the hair spill out of the swimsuit....but wouldn't dream of going topless.

Just a thought, how many people shave to disguise the fact that the hair on the head is a completely different colour? I don't mean the natural shade difference, but like blonde hair & black armpits?

I was going to say, "Why bother with the swimsuit in the first place".
I have watched fascinated asc people struggle in and out of swimsuits under a huge towel when all around them their might be topless girls or even people completely naked. Where's the sense? (I always remembering visiting a narturist beach in France and the most erotic sight on the beach was a girl wearing a transparent 'dayglo' orange bikini. This was an incidence where one tended to look at a clothed person rather than the unclothed people.
