Couldn't care less about war!!
Mycelium Posted Mar 4, 2003
I try to avoid The War Against Terror (T.W.A.T.) stories, not because I don't care, but because it saddens and angers me to hear Bush&Blair's 'holier than thou' 'we are the police of the world' bull***t.
Like immigration, terrorism is a problem we've made for ourselves. Who sold these despots their weapons in the first place? Who gave them a reason to hate us? Who is turning a blind eye to the state sponsored terrorism of Israel? Who decides whether a warrior is a freedom fighter or a terrorist?
Attacking Iraq will only *increase* 'terrorist' attacks. I think the UN should be more concerned about Palestine.

I think that the UN should be more concerned with removing Tony Blair's tongue from George W Bush's rear cavity.

Alfredo Marquez Posted Mar 4, 2003
Good in theory but the problem that we have is that Bush is going to attack Iraq whether the UN like it or not so even if the UN was more concerned with Palestine, Iraq would still get bombed

Sunday, three channels of sport, one of infomercials (thankyou USA, Not) and a circus on another channel.

Nice acronym, Mycelium. And oddly apt too.
I've found myself falling into an apathetic state regarding T.W.A.T. Especially after the massive, MASSIVE peace rallies around Australia and the rest of the world, when John Howard turned around and said to the public "I don't care what you say, we're getting involved because I say so." (paraphrased admittedly).
I just don't care any more. My father's stationed on a British Airfield in Oman, and I'm terrified at what may happen to him should there be retaliatory strikes against the "allied" forces. But for the rest of it, I just can't bring myself to bother. We've been force-fed the stories about terror, and the Iraqi Menace that Saddam is, and I'm just getting sick of hearing it.

"Bush is going to attack Iraq whether the UN like it or not" sad, but true. pity he hasn't got the balls to bomb saudi, after all they have stronger links to al q'aeda, and 15 of the 19 sept11th hijackers were from saudi.

W is a moron, Saddam is a paranoid schizo, and they both have more in common with each other than they do with the rest of us. Add to the mix an Articles of Confederation sort of government that does not work, and the whole thing is a mess any self-respecting person refuses to take sides in.

So Kea... could you explain just what the war has got to do with me then... or my partner or my two sons or my wider family, friends or colleagues...? Why is it a mistake if I take the opinion it has nothing to do with me or anyone else I am close too?
Couldn't care less about war!!
FiedlersFizzle Posted Mar 4, 2003
and too all those others who've stated they've become apathetic and can't be bothered with it any more...

There is the whole thing with the Nazis:
On the topic of NOT caring this is badly paraphrased but U get the idea.... It may be much olderthan WWII
When they came and got an aquaintence for no good reason,I said nothing, did nothing.
Then they came and took my neighbor for no good reason, I said and did nothing.
Next, they came and took my brother and with it my power to say or do anything. It IS TOO LATE to care now. They are coming for me.
Apologies for an inacurate quote but not 4 the meaning!

FiedlersFizzle Posted Mar 5, 2003
All very nice, but I don't see a facist govt impinging my liberties in this coutry... I still fail to see any relevance these quotes have to my life in the UK at present and why they should make me entertain an interest in all this talk of war and not think about something else instead...

Because this is being done in your name,
Because innocent lives will be lost,
Because a great injustice is going on in the world.
It's a very selfish viewpoint you have there Fielders, Im not insulting your character, merely this particular viewpoint you have...
'Im alright so who cares what happens to anyone else'
Couldn't care less about war!!
FiedlersFizzle Posted Mar 5, 2003
Didn't say I didn't care... said I wasn't interested in seeing, hearing about it all the time... I have more important things to think about... not just important to me but to my friends and family too...
And it's not being done in my name... that would only be the case if I said it was...
And to turn an anti-war lobbies argument on its head... there are great injustices and millions of innocents being killed all the time... don't hear much about all those do we...?

Hi, late reply to post 11.
The relevance of this particular quote is that in the 1930s, in many european countries, there were lots of people who thought the way you do. I'm not criticising you for thinking that way, but I do think it's a very good thing that so many people take a different view.

BobTheFarmer Posted Mar 5, 2003
Well, I do try to follow the injustices going on in the world, Tibet, Myanmar, Zimbabwe...
But this is not something insignificant.
I am tired of seeing stupid stories about celebrities in the news. These ARE insignificant to our lives.
They dont stop playing them though. Id say most people in the country watching the new want to see what is important in the world. Id say the current events are pretty damn important.
Couldn't care less about war!!
BobTheFarmer Posted Mar 5, 2003
Sorry Fielders, but you say 'Didn't say I didn't care' in post 34
However you called the thread'Couldnt care less about war.'...
You can understand where I may have got confused...
Couldn't care less about war!!
FiedlersFizzle Posted Mar 5, 2003
Are you referring to both those for and against war or just those against... It's not just the agianst lobby I'm fed up with... it's all of them... for and against...
and saying I'm not interested in talk of war does not mean I'm ignoring other factors that could contribute to the 30's European scenario of which you mention... the BNP winning council seats, ID cards, increased police detainment powers etc etc...
It's the never ending debate, going around and around in circles with no progress and both sides becoming firmly entrenched in their views that bothers me and leads to my apathy...
And I'm of the opinion that comparing the Iraq situation to that of 1930's Europe is as reactionary as the pro-war lobby claiming nuclear armageddon if we don't attack and not based in reality...
Couldn't care less about war!!
FiedlersFizzle Posted Mar 5, 2003
Damn!! hate it when I miss posts whilst writing my own...
Sorry Bob... perhaps I should have entitled it 'Couldn't care less about all this talk of war...' or something...

i dont give a crap about what happens over there, ok i have a small concern about getting my ass bombed to king-dom come, but that is why the war is a good thing, it will get rid of the threat, but apart from that i dont really think about it, the worst is all these people going to the protests...although, i think next time i forget my homework i'll just tell teacher that i couldnt concentrate, i was to worried about the war
