What job can men do that women cannot?
Marmite Posted Mar 24, 2006
Women cant throw balls properly and are useless at cricket, just an observation from watching the wife play in back garden

That's probably because most girls aren't taught to play cricket at school. The same reason a large number of men tend to make a hash of repairing a hole in a pocket.

No for sure women arent taught cricket at school, but no one needs to be taught to throw a ball, women just cant do it
Emm, needlework, hole in pocket, how the hell did i miss that at school

Of course you need to be taught to throw a ball! You think it was an instinct you were born with?
Nope, someone (probably your father) taught you the basics. Then your PT Masters refined it.

Must disagree, i cant remember ever being taught to throw a ball, and i believe it is instinct.
No one ever taught me to play the drums, i never had lessons, but i could play them when i was about 7, again it was instinct

I can't remember being taught to read, that doesn't mean I think the ability is instinctive, it just means I learnt at an early age.

Marmite Posted Mar 24, 2006
Agree, reading is something that you do learn, but i remember being taught to read, i remember it at infant school, but sorry throwing a ball isnt something you are taught.
Lowering the tone a little here, no one taught me how to have sex, i wasnt taught it at school or told by my parents, it was instinctive

Fine, you remember learning to read because you were old enough to remember it (4-5 if you learnt at infant school). I on the other hand could already read when I started school. Mum tells me she taught me, but I can't *remember* that because it's too long ago and I was too young to remember.
How do you know you weren't taught to throw a ball at a similarly young age as I was taught to read?

Cant say i remember throwing a ball was on the school curriculum in the 60's, maybe i am just getting old

Probably didn't have balls way back then.
Or if they did, they were carved out of stone and too heavy to throw
Were women so stroppy in olden days?

Hell I don't even remember being taught how to do basic arithmatic - the earliest I getinto my mind is still a case of someone saying something plus something and the answer kind of leaping, but I can't throw a ball with any difference of accuracy to this day. When I get roped into playing cricket and have to field its always the slow looping underarm .

Are you all dense? The ability to throw is in any tiny tot because they like to see what happens. Nobody taught them, they just find it fun.
However the ability to throw FAR needs to be taught, children lack the coordination to spin bodies and flick the wrist at the same time.
Oh and only some women make good jet pilots because of the circulatory configurations, however any particularly well endowed woman can and would pass out because of the excess pressure on their ribcage, which would compress lungs and diaphram so they cant breathe at high G.

would this be a good time to vaguely remember that not so long ago the England women's cricket team had a better world ranking than the men's?

>Oh and only some women make good jet pilots because of the circulatory configurations, however any particularly well endowed woman can and would pass out because of the excess pressure on their ribcage, which would compress lungs and diaphram so they cant breathe at high G.<
As far as I've learned, at high G pilots don't have difficulty breathing, they actually have to force themselves to stop breathing normally. They are trained to hold their breath for 5 seconds, then take a deep breath and hold it for 5 more seconds etc in order for the getting-blood-back-to-the-brain-and-stopping-it-from-pooling-in-the-extremities thing to work.
I've never heard anything about the large-chested women theory, but then again I havent read and seen EVERYTHING about G-forces, so I'd be interested to know where that info was from... As far as I can make out, at high G your boobs wouldnt suddenly weigh more then the rest of your body and crush your ribcage, its your whole body thats affected.
ps I am female, and very good at sports. My sister has never been good at sports. So either
a)our parents treated us differently and only taught me how to throw a ball
b)its instinct in me and not in my sister
c)perhaps I liked PE at school and my sister didnt
d)a billion other explanations
So I think whether or not an individual, male or female, is good at sports is determined by many factors. Having lived in North America and England, I have seen a huge difference in how girls are encouraged to play sports, so there are social influences too.

Bunnyfrog is right to an extent. As children we all experiment with our bodies to see what they can do, but we also copy what others do.
I'm sure that there are also critical stages in development where a skill can be learnt/reinforced such as the individual will be a better performer than average throughout life. There are also, through genes, natural talents which can be brought to the fore with the right coaching & practise at almost any time of life.

I meant to add that there are many activities which everyone can muddle through at a basic level, but can be enhanced through appropriate education & practise.

Yes, but that's definitely an area where there sould be some teaching. I mean, some people (non-gender-specific here ) are crap at it whilst others are very good!
