What job can men do that women cannot?
swl Posted Jun 11, 2006
I understand it applies to Doctors in a hospital too. Male doctors have to be accompanied by female nurses. But not GP's curiously enough
Probably got a lot to do with a fear of being accused of doing something and being sued.

<<Unfortunately not everyone appreciates how hard it is to bear & raise a child, which I think is why people make commebnts like that.>>
I assure i do appreciate how hard it is. A scary responsibility. But it's pointless to complain about it, as if it was one of the unfair things women has to bear as opposed to men. You can take it or leave it. I mean what's the point in complaining, just?

Strange sort of arguement that AnarchistDuck, its not so much that childbearing is hard and people feel unappriciated for doing it, its because they are automatically forbidden for taking out the stress on the child itself which is why the repression seems to vent at anybody making the slightest irk at the complaining. Bizarrely, we rarely hear complaints from people who are happy with the situation, because they are, well, happy.
I wonder how my sisters getting on?

As I said, not everyone appreciates this - including prospective parents!
But giving birth to a child IS something only women can do & the majority of child rearing is done by women. Even working women tend to do the major share of housekeeping. Conditions & opinions will never change if people just get on quietly.
You can choose not to have children - but once you've embarked on it, there's no resigning & changing job other than having a nanny, using 24hr nurseries etc.

What i was talking about was, complaining against how hard *pregnancy* is. My answer was to that. That's not something that can be fair or not, it's not something humans decide.
How much of the housekeeping women do is completely another subject.
Swollen feet in pregnancy won't change whatever you think of it in terms of fairness.
Giving birth to a child is something only women can enjoy and suffer, yes. What's there in it to object to?

The final aim, though, surely, is to be able to get on with it quietly. Men examining women, bringing up their children, women fighting fires... when we can all just get on and do it without people feeling the necessity to write a newspaper article about it, well, then we're there.

I look forward to real equality, where gender never comes into it. When I can see a firefighter at work and think,
"nice "

I agree, we all have different roles, it shouldn't be a competition about who works hardest. However, it is important that everyone's role is appreciated.
(I'm not really sure how I got into this latest discussion - it arose from me explaining a comment that I don't fully support!)

I agree that these things shouldn't be about who does what and we should all get over this Men-Women thing and just get on with life. There are far more important things than arguing about this.
Men are men. Women are women.
Men aren't women. Women aren't men.
There. We all have it in writing. Next issue, please!

I don't want a 4 months old and a 2 year old running 'round with axes. Though it might mean an open-plan house... hmmm....

It also includes Anne Boleyn. Though while yes, she technically did compose music, making her a composer, she aint a composer in that sense if you can follow that rather convoluted arguement.
