Zoomer. You're joking, right? "a fine group of friends and family"? Do I know something you don't know? Look at Trunt's fine group of friends and family.

Hmmmm. I'm confused, but then I would be, wouldn't I? I'll ask Ms. Travis to help me with this during recess, she says that we should always ask for help when on the computers.

Thanks for the link to the Native memorial. I didn't realize there was one, and it is truly beautiful. Not only Natives got shafted by Dept of Veterans' Affairs. The rules were that farms and holdings weren't to be held for Vets, they were all to have a fair chance at available land. My Dad had his eye on a farm at Alexander, MB (his home town) when he came home from Overseas. He applied for it, and found out it had been held for someone else. He told DVA exactly where they could put their farms, rules, themselves, and probably several other things. This man could swear in complete sentences! In 1960 his name came up again on their list, and he relented (Mom made him) and went to see them. We ended up with a turn-of-the-century farm house and 3 acres of land.
We weren't allowed to show any prejudice in our house. Dad had played hockey against and with the Natives at a local reserve. They often visited us in our home, especially their Chief, a good friend of Dad's. I went to school and camp with them. I still have Native friends, and they're wonderful artists and particularly good people.
Now I've had my rant, I feel better, and I'll follow the trail of the forum.

To paraphrase folksinger Todd Snider:
63 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot
82 percent of all people believe them
97 percent of all statisticians hate their jobs

The thing that gets me about Cherry's comments (have I already said this?) is not the ethnic aspect (which is tiresome and pointless at best) but the fact that this coach(?)up to whom young players look seems to be implying that eye protection is somehow wimpy. As someone who has been depending on one eye since childhood, I have to say that Cherry is an irresponsible git and should be taken off the air completely because of his betrayal of Canadian kids who play hockey, never mind his assenine statements about the Europeans and the French.

I've always felt he was the clown of the sport, complete with the clown suit. Hockey will always have it's *rough and tumble* advocates, and his *Rock'em Sock'em* videos are huge hits in some segments of society. I'm not sure that someone wouldn't just step into his shoes if he retired or was *stepped down*.

From today's "Social Studies" column in the Globe and Mail:
Ask a doctor
Britain's Pulse magazine has compiled some after-hours calls from patients that the country's doctors have reported:
"I'm on antibiotics. Can I wash my hair?"
"How many calories are there in prawns?"
"Can the dog be treated on the [National Health Service]?"
"I'm doing a crossword. How do you spell eczema?"

Okay, here's something:

"President Bush will never cede the best interests of the national security of the American people to anybody but the president of the United States, along with the Congress," except when the commander of NORAD has to take a pee, at which point, command of the American forces protecting the Fath- I mean homeland is passed to a Canadian.
"John Kerry knows that while the United States never gives veto power over our security to any international institution," Do they actually believe that Canada, New Zealand, France, Germany, Vanuatu, etc. ever give veto power to the UN? This kind of talk really strikes me as a symptom of a pathetic national paranoia.

I am a fan of Sumo wrestling. However, it is very difficult to keep anything near up-to-date on it. I used to watch a weekly Japanese news program on CBC Newsworld. Originally, it was one hour, with the first half being the news and the rest sort of "general interest" spots. They kept whittling it down from an hour. Finally, it was down to 5 minutes and rarely had musch more than the main news and the financial report....
They used to give longer reporsts on the Sumo during the seasonal Basho (tournaments). I even had my favorite wrester, even though he didn't do very well.
My cat used to enjoy watching Sumo, for some reason.

Benjamin (the Kat) was also fascinated with the Dalai Lama. I was playing a video about the Dalai Lama and Benjamin walked over, sat on a footstool in front of the TV and sat through an entire talk by the Dalai Lama. As soon as he was done, Benjamin jumped down and walked away.
I can't help wondering if, in one of his past lives, he was a Buddhist Sumo wrestler...
