What historical event would you witness if you could?
Teuchter Posted Feb 13, 2003
Machu Pichu - what an amazing place. On my list of places I'll actually go to see one day.

I'd like to see what was happening when the first person picked up a plant and wondered what would happen if you set light to it & inhaled! Or taking it further, just how was fire "invented"

I like wibble's wish to be at the point of history when fire was discoverd.

I'd like to see the first person who decided "Hey, I'll pull on these dangly thingys on the cow and drink whatever comes out."

I thought about that one, but then remembered that at the time, humans probably weren't wearing anything, nevermind bras made from black bags, and would have noticed other dangly things that if manipulated correctly would yield milk! (o)(o)

I wonder if the person who initiated this post has read Arthur.C.Clarke & Stephen Baxters novel `The Light of Other Days`.
Its a couple of years old and for now is a work of fiction.

*wonders if finding out that cows udders produce tasty milk was the product of sexual experimentation*

Not too old I know but I would have simultaneously liked to have been on the moon when Neil Armstrong walked for the first time (if he actually did - but that's an entire other thread) and also in the NASA control room. Imagine the atmosphere. Tense at takeoff, expectant at landing and sheer joy as the event unfolds.

It might be interesting to see the begining of the universe.

I'd like to see the Pythagoreans throw Hippasus of Metapontum off the boat after he mentioned sqrt(2). That, or hear any Greek philosophers. Or figure out just which texts were written by Hippocrates himself.
