I think it's because they rush out code, don't really think about what they need/want it to do, have to get new features in. That sort of thing.

PH - charity bag packers at supermarket checkouts. Most of the time I pay for groceries by debit card and don't carry loose change so I either have to look like a tight git and say "Don't pack my bags" or I have to get cash from the till to give them a £1.

I share that petty hate!

I've said several times to the supermarket I go to, "Please, can you have a few tills that *don't* have them on?" But no, every weekend there's a load of kids packing bags for charity.

I don't mind if they want to do it, I don't mind if people want them to do it, but I find they just get in the way. I cycle to the supermarket, I take my shopping home in my cycle-bags, they've not got a clue how to pack them to balance, let alone not putting the soft stuff at the bottom. And if you say to them "No thanks, I'll pack my own," they don't get out of the way! They stand there at the end of the till, blocking the space you want to put your trolley!

I have actually lost it with them a couple of times and asked them to move out of the way.

And I've never given them money.

I think the reason I've never given them money though, is I've never seen a charity I'd actually be willing to give money to. I'm sorry, but if your precious little snowflake wants subsidised dancing lessons, then tough. I don't want dancing lessons, I don't care if your little princess wants dancing lessons, I'm not giving you any money for it.

People online who eat and don't mute their microphone. The sound of people chomping and chewing and slurping is disgusting.

I chew and slurp on the phone at people who are rude enough to call when it's really my lunch break. (Not answering is not an option)

smiley - tongueincheek

and back to the birds which annoy us - crows. This morning a friend told me that two crows were attacking her old cat. They are ugly and make a horrible noise and we are in danger of being overrun by them.

Isuspect this might be culturally-learned disgust. I am informed that in China, people aren't disgusted by it, and indeed they can be offended by a foreigner who keeps their mouth closed while they eat, rather than joining in the conversation.

Attitudes to noisy eating and drinking are definitely a feature of one's culture. Noisy eating and/or drinking in some oriental countries isn't just tolerated, it's expected. The noise made indicates the enjoyment of the food and drink.

Doesn't mean I want to hear somebody eating their food, whether they're on the other end of the phone or across the table from me.smiley - yuk

PH - adverts on Youtube Setting a playlist to run in the background and every couple of songs there's an advert at 50% higher volume.

Programs that change the sound of other programs when focus is on them despite me setting windows not to do it.

I switch to my web browser when dead in Team Fortress 2 and the volume of spotify becomes louder because it's not focussed on TF2 and it's driving me mad. Only started doing it recently as well.

This PH is related to cakes. There's something slightly weird about the way so much time and money is lavished on turning a piece of sponge into the centrepiece of a celebration, sometimes by employing ingenious designs and mechanisms to create what can be a work of art, perhaps a replica of a building, a musical instrument or other fantasy creation. But the materials used are patently unsuitable for this task; it would be far more sensible to make an artwork out of wood or metal, *and* it wouldn't then get destroyed by having loads of drunk people thoughtlessly woofing it down their gullets. It all smacks of decadence to deliberately use cake as an engineering material.

I realise I could be accused of missing the point here...

(In case you haven't guessed, I don't really like eating cake anyway)

Even more intricate things are made of ice, or sand or flower heads. Or balloons http://news.distractify.com/culture/arts/balloon-sculpture-time/

They don't get eaten, but they only last till the next tide, or till the party's over, too.

I think this is just an example of the actual making of the object being the whole idea. It is very satisfying designing and crafting these things, but afterwards, you don't know what to do with it, so make it, take a picture, then chuck it away, or let it melt, deflate, or get digested. We don't have time these days to clutter up our houses with things which get in the way and which only have a limited attraction. We say "my godson made this", dust them and huff and puff every time we have to sidle around them, and then wake up one morning wondering how long we intend to do this.

You can't have your cake and eat it. So, eating, IMHO, is the best option.

Briefly returning to the charity packers, just to totally agree with the earlier comment from pastey; even setting aside the annoyance factor of being psychologically bullied into giving to these parasites and their inability to pack as well or as fast as I can, the charities they are raising money for are pathetic. Almost always holidays for private school-kids or new ipads for the maths class or something similarly and spectacularly undeserving!

and no, I never give; I politely say 'no thanks'.
