2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Started conversation Jan 27, 2003
Probably been asked before. but here it goes again.
Ring sizes, you know, things on your fingers, called rings they is.
Well, I already found out its differently measured in US and UK.
So, a UK size E is something like 2 1/2 size in US terminology.
But how big is it? I mean, are they numbers/letters that mean nothing other than relating to a particular size which is the size of the ring, but not easily taken across to something easier to understand? I think I just saw a ghost

Not as yet.... So, any clues to how big ring sizes actually are? Like, I guess it goes in UK measurements from A upto something, which must include size E, so, is E larger or smaller than an A?

Having worked in a jewellers I can confirm that E is bigger than a A.
The size are graduated on a ring stick with regular increments between the sizes and i'd advise you to always if you can order a ring in the correct size rather thna simply getting it streached for convenience sake if you are that forward planning. I've seen one of two go slightly wrong whilst I or a colleague was expanding or shrinking a ring in the shop. Of course we never let on to the customer and usually sorted out some sort of other solution.

A 2 1/2 ring size would be for a child. My wife's wedding ring is a 5 and she is a small woman.

well, by most measures, my hands, for a guy are on teh small size; I have to use the smallest surgical glovs they have when I've been messin about in the lab and, the last pair of leather gloves I bought were the smallest size they had, in a mans glove, and the fingers are pretty much all slightly too long

My hands are large for a woman. My engagement and wedding rings are size O, I have a gold ring I wear on the index finger of my left hand which is an S and the middle finger of my right hand is an R. The last ring gauge I used only went up to Z, but then I don't work at a jewellers.

So does anyone know what the diameter/radius is of all these different sizes (speaking as someone who's never had or worn a ring) I've got quite fat fingers but they're long as well (good for cello playing) *grabs ruler* ring finger is 8cm long but a massive 2cm wide at the bottom.
*wonders off feeling completely unadorned* One day I'll wear more jewellry than a pendant and a lego watch
