My mums 90th Birthday
Afrabian the scribe Started conversation Jan 13, 2003
My mum is going to be 90 years old on 7th February a big day in her life.
Lila (her name) is a cockney lady and has a rich sense of humour. She loves watching westerns on the TV and the house shakes with the sound of gunfire!! You see she is just a tad deaf hence the extra decibels.
She has a bet every day and usually wins too! Now why am I telling you this?
Well I am going to the UK to be with her and we're have a party in her honour of course. What I would like very much is to take with me a bunch of birthday greetings from you folks out there! I'll print em
and hopefully if I get some from around the world it will be a fantastic surprise for her. She most likely thinks the internet is somethin to do with fishing!! But just imagine what'll happen when she reads your messages. So if you like to post a big hello to Lila please do it here and I thank you in advance. Keep it short and sweet.
Like greetings to Lila from...name (first) and city/country. Thanks folks.

Hi Afrabian,
This page isn't really the best place to solicit messages like this. 'Ask h2g2' is much, much busier, so I'll move this thread to there for you and hopefully you'll get lots of messages.
Oh, and:
Many happy returns, Lila, and here's hoping your next 90 years are fun and exciting!
Jimster, h2g2.

Thanks but where do I look now for these messages? No restriction on comments if you want to mention John Wayne she'll love that.

Happy Birthday, Lila.
Join us on h2g2 and find out what marmite is really for = experimental science projects! We may come up with a John Wayne project too some time. How about the best way to imitate that rolling walk or people's favourite JW quotes. Or vote JW for president of h2g2. In a virtual world there's no need for the _acting_ president to be alive or even real. So vote for your favourite JW role instead. We could have a whole parliament made up of his different screen personae.

Thanks Tango. Just to add to the more humourous aspect of my mum. She attended a Neighbourhood watch talk at the local church hall. A burly cop was there telling this bunch of oldies about keeping an eye open and looking after themselves. Any questions he asked. Lila (who is about 10kg wet) piped up and said Can't you issue us all with baseball bats? The cop folded. She also has a way with words. She once told me about a Jamaican guy she'd seen with 'reglocks'! I said no mum don't you mean dreadlocks yeah thats right she said "reglocks". She keeps us going with her homilies I must say. But John Wayne is her greatest love. I told her once that she'd been watching these westerns now for so long the front room was beginning to smell of gunsmoke and horsemanure she loved that!

It's certainly about time that my Louisiana accent was of some use other than to confuse people on the phone.

Thanks guys you are doing great. Is it true that in the west everyone wears cowboy boots? By the way Lila likes ole Quincy too on the tv so I suppose when big John shoots em Quincy gets to do the autopsy!
