*winked at cl*
So aside from cr*ppy football, what else was going on in 1966? It would be cool if it was 1969, but it's not.
Wait. I think I have something. I believe that was the founding year of the Church of Satan.
That makes me happy.
Go on about your business people.

Hmm, apparently Juan Peron has been voted President of Argentina and Churchill, currently in opposition, has coined the term "Iron Curtain".

That concept puts me between the wars, around the rise of fascism.

Touché, Madent. Hitler is one year into his chancellorship and the world is still trying to get out of the Great Depression.

I remember thinking what a sexy figure Bodicea made charging the Roman Legions. Took me ages to stop to stop calling Eric Blood Axe uncle, he used to let me wear his Viking helmet. Oh the good old days, rape , burning and pillage, just like Liverpool today.
Heres to 2003, oops theres my Long Boat PeterK

If I do this trick for my father who is happily still with us, although not a h2g2 researcher, I get the year 1844. I have no idea what was happening at that time! If I try my grandfather, who has passed away, I get 1748, around the start of the industrial revolution.

So what you're saying, if I was twice as old as I really am, my birth year would be - 1906!

This thread's worth bumping.
You certainly know how to make someone feel old, Pin!
My date occurs during the First World War (Feb 1918). Just had a look through the Times Archive on that date. Lots of stories about rationing - no particular war stories to report. I did spot a couple of interesting advertisements though:
Burberry had a sale on. You could get a service greatcoat reduced from 6 to 3½ guineas.
HMV ran a large ad with a picture of soldiers relaxing in a trench: "The brave men who are facing the perils and hardships of war in the trenches need a relaxation which takes their minds away from mud and shells for a little while. That's why a gift of 'His Masters Voice' Records is always so greatly appreciated by our fighting men. The music .... refreshes their war-tired minds and makes good old Blighty seem nearer."
