Have you heard it yet? What do you think? Is it a lost classic, or the sound of someone scraping the bottom of the barrel?

It is a classic.
But then, I always did like Tool.

I suppose we should be thankful they didn't dig out a dodgy old cassette of Kurt singing in the bath and weld it on to a Foo Fighters backing track.
*cough* Beatles *cough*

I've not heard it at all, or even heard of it. What's this all about?

They've unearthed one of the last (or possibly *the* last, can't quite remember) songs Kurt Cobain recorded with Nirvana, and used it as the opening track on the new Nirvana compilation album, imaginatively titled "Nirvana".

If it had been released at the time they had been popular it would have been a number one. The mix isn't too good and I think if they had had the chance it would have been re-recorded and mixed.
I think it is superb but am a bit annoyed at the using of that song to sell a compilation of songs that I already own on a bunch of different formats. Better than them selling it GAP though I guess.....

I might get that album. I've thought of buying something by them, but the phenomenon died (along with the lead singer, of course) not long before I became really conscious of the musical world around me. That meant that I only know a few of their sopngs, the same ones everyone knows. That's the sort of thing a 'Best Of' album is good for.

If it's the first thing you're going to buy, then get "Nevermind" - which is still the best album, and is if it comes to it is probibly a better "Best Of" than this new album.
I was really disappointed with the tracklisting, it could have been 20 odd tracks for a start.
So is the new track a cover? With two covers on it already it seems to be stretching it a bit.

So long as it has 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and the other one on it, I'm happy. I won't get it immediately any way. If I don't get them for Christmas, I've got to buy albums from The Vines, Coldplay, Queens of the Stone Age, compilations The Album and Kerrang! 4...

The new track isn't a cover, it's a Cobain original. The only covers on the album are "The Man Who Sold The World" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night", both from the Unplugged album.

So it's just Tool-esque rather than being a Tool track...
Does anyone know if it's out on vinyl?

Yeah, I've heard this track not bad, but did you listen to the charts today?
Seems soon as Nirvana come back into the limelight, Pearl Jam & Foo Fighters jump on the bandwagon, just like the old days.

Hmmmmm, Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters have had the album release dates out for about 6 months ..... the Nirvana single was gonna be released in December but now has been rush released! You don't think someones record company is trying to jump on a certain bandwagon?

The Foo Fighters single is good. And I'm not usually that enthusiastic about them.

I agree, in fact I prefer it (gasp) to the Nirvana single....... which has been available under a different title for several years. I can't remember what it's called (my copy is a home) but it was a live version.
