I don't know how many of you watch South Park, but...
What was your moment when they officially went WAY too far over the boundaries of good semi-sane TV?
For me, it was the boy scout episode when the newscaster read the name of the child-molester they found - "Slippyfist" UUAAAAGGHHH!!!
OR this evening, when little Eric Cartman was playing "Silence of the Lambs"..
Mother of God!

*giggle* you have quite a valid point there..indeed, why do we watch that crap? You know that we do though - it's even permeated our vernacular..I don't know HOW often I hear someone (or catch myself) saying "Seriously, you guys.." in a Cartman voice.
"No kitty, that's a bad kitty! That's MY potpie!"
"Drugs are bad, mm-kay?"

South Park is hilarious until you find your own ethnicity/religion/hair color under attack
It's still quite funny though...

The "Paedophilia" episode with the moving monologue at the end saying that sex was a good thing in any "loving relationship" with an eight-year-old was broadcast about a week before the Brass Eye "Paedogeddon" special... South Park didn't make the mistake of mocking the media, hence there was no media uproar about it. It was quite funny, though... (Actually, both were! )

south park used to eb rubbish when it was just crass. now it is great, and i mean really great satire. even when ive had my own thngs satirised ive still seen certain valid points. and i see sence when they mock other things...like televangelism, or fear of paedophiles etc.
as far as im concerned its brilliant.

I find some of South Park's satire extremely effective and amusing - partly because it's blanketed in the crassness of the humour. Has anyone seen "Super Best Friends", where Stan goes to Jesus for help defeating a cult of David Blaine followers?
"Now, turn around."
The secret to all of Jesus' miracles. Two thousand years ago, he reflects, people fell for it.

The scariest thing is, some of them do actually have a point. but the best one was definately the one with Korn in it, much as I hate them as a band...

I also liked the episode when Cartman inherits a million dollars and buys his own theme park.
"Cartmanland! It's the best theme park in the Colorado area, and you CAN'T COME! Especially you, Stan and Kyle."

As someone who was sexually abused as a kid, I love the South Park irreverence. I know its a difficult subject and one to always be treated with respect, but its so refreshing not to be pussyfooted about once in a while.
I remember telling a rape joke to 2 very offended people, yet I was the only person there who had been raped! I thought that was hilarious.
Does this mean its okay to laugh at abuse jokes so long as the resident abused person agrees?

Probably! It's not as serious, but there are a lot of jokes degrading to men which I find very funny indeed.

my parents are christian and find it funny, I am a gal and find it funny- it's just made to shed light on another point of view, however wrong it is. And they're not necessarily degrading

It's kind of ridiculous to say that south park went too far on a particular occasion, since the premise of the show is about going too far.

I tend to find South Park pretty funny, mostly in its satire aspects, rather than the fart jokes. (can I say 'fart', Mods?)
The moment it went too far is pretty obvious to me - Mr Garrison's 'Merry F**king Christmas' song, which is *never* shown on TV (not even Sky). It's on the Mr. Hanky's Christmas Songs episode, is only on the DVD, and is ultra-offensive and hilarious at the same time

I actually just remembered Terence and Philip's song in the movie. It was called "Shut your f**king face uncle f**ker" and was probably the only thing in South Park that I've seen that I really think they shouldn't have done. I usually skip that bit when I watch the film. It was really use of the word for the sake of it, and I know it made a point in the film and it was kind of necessary for the plot, but I don't think it was quite necessary to have that much of it.
"Blame Canada", on the other hand, was very funny - not because of anything about Canada, but because of the reaction of Kyle's mum to what could easily be said to be her fault.

I just liked 'Kyle's mum is a B****'- just because of the clever use of languages
And because I can sometimes suffer from a nagging mother...not that I suppose I'll be any different if and when I have kids *whistles*
