The purpose of horns in cars

Most people think that, instead of going out of MY way, I'll alert this unaware slob that he's making a possibly fatal mistake by laying on the horn.
When said unaware slob STILL insists on doing the same thing he was doing before the hornblow, first person is now in Panic Mode, and slams on the brakes.
Just happened to me the other day, sort of. No collision. Two turn lanes, me on the ineer turn, him on the outer. He started to cut into MY lane in the turn. I held down the hor, and refused to yield. His response? HE started blowing HIS horn at ME, and cussed ME out! If he had hit me, it would not have mattered to me much, because:
A: I was in the right of way,
B: My car is 14 years old, and LOOKS it, and
C: I drive an Astro Van, and it was 3 times the size of his Nissan!
My word to the wise is, NEVER let yourself in Panic Mode, and don't yeild ROW to morons! you'll get a better car from suing them than you ever could by buying one!
(the last bit:don't try this at home. I AM a professional big-vehicle driver!)

Happened to me once. The guy actually hit me, then when he stopped to walk back and shout at me for daring to have right of way and not yielding when he was overtaking slower than I was driving, he opened his door into the path of a passing van, which took it off and did more damage than the original accident
And then his insurance company had to buy me a new wing
And he lost his bonus

The last accident I had *knocks on wood* was a long time ago. The other driver caused it, I avoided hitting his vehicle (NTS: If they cause it, get a piece of them!) but aquired a telephone pole for a hood ornament. The other driver slowed then, but decided to keep going. They would have got clean away except that I had a rather tempermental passenger who, after finding he couldn't open the door, jumped through the window, ran after the pickup, grabbed and clung to the rear-view mirror whilst nearly pulling the driver through. They stopped.

I have never pushed a pram or pushchair into someones legs, but I have nearly had my eyes poked out by an umbrella.
