Does anything rhyme with the word 'orange'?
caper_plip Started conversation May 12, 2002
This should probably go in the 'Oranges' thread, but if anyone can find a word in the English language that rhymes with the word 'orange', please say so!
And as a side-note, to make sure nobody takes the subject title seriously, and assumes that I made a blatant mistake, I know the word 'anything' doesn't rhyme with 'orange'
Thanks!
Caper Plip

But it doesn't strictly rhyme if the -ge is silent...
I thought 'lozenge' rhymed... but apparently it doesn't...

Ah, but 'flange' is only half rhyme, or visual rhyme - it scans well on the page because of the ending but when spoken it doesn't quite work.

This all depends on our accent, doesn't it? I remember this bit in 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood where the protagonist says something to the effect of 'A chair is something you sit on. It is also the first syllable in the word 'charity'.' And I was thinking - no it's not, my friend... but then I'm not an American like Offred.

Apart from all the -inge words mentioned aboved, which definitely rhyme in my pronunciation, there is apparently a word "sporange"

You can always throw an orange flange though.

That point where the gravity between the Moon and Earth cancels each other out. the LaGrange point. Does that rhyme?
Yes, sporange does
Wand'rin star Posted May 13, 2002
Linda - all those -inge endings, as a couple of us said above, rhyme in our pronunciation.
Sporange - anglicisation of the technical term 'sporangium' a structure in which spores are produced.
Yes, sporange does

I was painting the door and the door hinge
I've decided to paint them both orange
It works in my accent!
He was painting the seabirds bright purple
and he charged people 20p per gull

Does anything rhyme with the words 'orange' and 'purple'?
caper_plip Posted May 13, 2002
Ah, but if you use a little French (breaking the rules, I know... but...), it sort of works...
In my house a piece of furniture is purple,
But in France they would say 'le violet meuble'.
Well, it almost works!
Purple?
caper_plip Posted May 13, 2002
Gerbil - if the -bil is pronounced -bul... but that isn't right either...
Purple?
