Still Incognitas, Still Chairthingy, Still lurking, Still invisible, unnoticeable, missable, unseen, just haunting h2g2

Hmm! When I was young all I can remember was Winnie the Pooh,Wind in the Willows,Golden Age,Alice in Wonderland and Enid Blyton's books. I have to say that in the last 40 odd years the choice for children has improved considerably. I do remember The Midnight Folk by John Milton and the Weirdstone of Brisingham as well as Marianne Dreams(very spooky) when I got a little older but I think that not long after that I discovered SF.
I really enjoyed having a family during the last 19 years. There were so many wonderful stories we read together. Peepo by the Albergs, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Church Mice, The Mr Men and Little Misses, were just the start. Now my 19-year-old daughter and 13 year old son swaps books with each other and me with lots of highly recommended suggestions. My son was the one who made me read Phillip Pullman's trilogy and got his sister hooked on Harry Potter.

Incog.

I remember as a child enjoying the Paddington books and Professor Branestawm stories. I read a few of Alfred Hitchcock's 3 Investigators series and then disappeared into the realm of science fiction (Ray Bradbury got me hooked) from which I occasionaly emerge.

Why do I keep forgetting books I loved, especially when I still have copies of many of them. It seems that, in common with a lot of people, I didn't have a single 'favourite book'. I just loved reading. So here are some more to add to the list: What Katy Did and What Katy Did At School; Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass.

Feel free to jog my memory some more! smiley - bigeyes

Ek* this space intentionally left blank *ki

It's weird, the majority of these books I've only decided to read since I supposedly grew up ...

Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, The Hobbit, all the Pooh books, the Little Prince ... thoroughly enjoyed all of them although the undertones behind the Alice books I found vaguely disturbing.

There's a lot to be said for reading 'kiddies' books when you're older ... a 25 year old, working male reading Alice in Wonderland on the commuter flight to Glasgow draws some odd looks ...

If it had words, I would read it as a child.

Narnia, anything by Enid Blyton, Trixie Belden books and an Australian series called "The Silver Brumby" were some of my favourites. I have fond memories of Where the Wild Things Are...And several of the How And Why? Wonder books.

I loved reading, and still do.

I've always loved reading.

The first big book I had was a copy of "Grimms Fairy Tales" when I was five and recovering from a spell in traction.

My favourite at school was "The Billy Goats Gruff" and many other books in the Ladybird series of titles. Unfortunately the current version has been dumbed down an awful lot (as have many other Ladybord titles). I also loved things like "The Black Hand Gang" and the "Chronicles of Narnia".

Then I moved on to "Swallows and Amazons", "The Hobbit" and "Witchworld".

Before I left school I had also read "The Lord of The Rings" and the 1st & 2nd "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant".

But it wasn't until I was 17 that I got started on SF to any degree, starting with "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".

Now I have kids I am going back to read things like "Pooh of Pooh Corner" and "Alice in Wonderland" as bed time stories for them.

"The Black Hand Gang" Oooh. I forgot that one. I had it up until I left home last year and I read it and read it and read it over and over again. I think it finally ended up falling apart...
