The standard one is 'kh' - used for Russian, Arabic and other languages.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Dec 23, 2005
Unfortunately 'kh' is usually a much harsher sound than 'ch', and would only spread the mispronuncation of 'loch' as 'lock'.

Yes - but you need to use IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) which renders it as a Greek lower-case 'chi'

There are two similar sounds which in English can only be represented by 'kh'. They have the IPA symbols 'x' and [chi]. The first one is the less guttural of the two.

Lucky Llareggub - no more cannibals in our village, we ate the last one yesterday.. Posted Dec 26, 2005
I'm "lucky Llareggub" and you can pronounce my surname, which is in fact an invented place name, backwards.
Llareggub is the 'Under Milk Wood' invention of poet Dylan Thomas for the town of Newport in Wales. A good way to learn how to pronounce the Welsh 'Ll' is to parrot Richard Burton's pronounciation in the above mentioned play for voices
or just call me lucky

Shoulders back Llovely boy.
I've always found that pronouncing 'clan' while trying to remove a fur ball from the back of my throat gives the 'Ll' sound.

It's a common misconception that there's a C sound in Ll - as in 'Clandudno', the traditional Scouse pronunciation of Llandudno.
S'easy (if you had a Welsh grandmother, like I did ). Fold the tip of your tongue up to the roof of your mouth, as if saying L, then blow air around each side.
Steve Bell, the Grauniad's 'If' cartoonist, invented the placenames Llan-y-Cradoc and Pant-y-Gwrdwl.
'And I do hope your donuts turn out like Fanny's'

Claughton in Lancashire is pronounced Klafton.
Yes, granny was right (ain't they always?) folding the tongue against the roof of the mouth and blowing is a good way to learn to do Ll.

What about Kingston upon Hull which tends to pronounced "Ul"?
Gosh, all those silent letters!
We have a road here in Cambridge called Queen's Road which is often pronounced "The Backs"! Coincidentally and confusingly there is a stretch of river nearby also know as "The Backs".
