Does it count?

I am just reading "The God of Small Things". In the book a child asked:
If you dreamt you were happy, does it count? Like if you dreamt you ate fish, does it mean you ate fish?

What do you think, does it count?

Yes.

And you cant have it both ways- ideally it would count for any nice dreams, and not count for nightmares, but it just counts I reckon

Happiness? Yes.
It is an emotional state and anything you feel in your dreams is as valid as when awake. Arguably its quality is different and it is normally less under your control or the control of others external factors.

Eating a fish? No.
This involves moving physical objects. Your dreams relate at most to the moving of electrons. No physical fish moves or is eaten because of your dream.

Of course, the above are based on the simple standard scientific view of the universe.
If you woke up and realised that your entire life up to this point had been a dream then all the fish you had eaten during your life would suddenly become 'un-eaten', promoting a growth in the fishing industry. You would lose all qualifications, savings and tattoos collected at this point but then again you might find you had other things to compensate!

I don't know - I have dreamt of being happy, and then woken up to find that everything was still as bad as it had been before I went to bed. smiley - sadface

I dreamt I ate human flesh once (don't ask...very bad dream) so I really really hope not.

It counts until you wake up, then it doesn't.

I thought it was all a dream. Or did I just think I thought that? Or did I just dream that I though I thought that?

Happy - yes, cuz it's so nice to wake up in the mornings with that nice warm feeling remembering your happy dream smiley - smiley

Fish - I can tell you from experience that the only thing I've eaten while dreaming of eating things is pillow. The unexpected sensation of tasteless fluff rather than whatever delicious delight I was dreaming of wakes me up pretty sharpish.... !
