Random Buffy Question

Mr. Cogito

Having watched the season premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer last night, I am reminded of the NON-SPOILING general question that has bugged me for a while. Why exactly would anybody want to live in Sunnydale anyway? Considering that many suburbs were populated by families afraid of crime in the cities, it's odd that said families are willing to put up with the perpetual random destruction wreaked by the dark forces of evil. So why is Sunnydale not a ghost town?

I suppose the rents are cheap and it's a good school district, and maybe it's a good commute to Silicon Valley. I know a few people who would be more willing to face down demons than be stuck an extra hour in traffic.

I would also like to say that people should avoid mentioning the details of last night's premiere, so as not to spoil any surprises for the Europeans watchers that visit here.

I see you point about the whole Ghost thing... But it is a tv-show and it would be kindda odd if no-one lived in the town.

Besides, I believe the issues has been adressed on the show before, in the 3.season episode Gingerbread where Willow, Buffy and Amy were almost burned at the stake for witchcraft and general involvement with the occult.
I think it was either Buffy or Willow that said something along these lines: "It never ceases to amaze me how good people in this town are at surpressing all the evil that happenes around them." And someone else says something like this: "It´s the low property prices, it makes for higher tolerance levels."
Well, it´s not an exact qoute, but you get the idea. Good point though...

So tell me in a non-spoily kindda way, was the season 6 premiere good??? I´m gonna get it in a couple of weeks, a friend is downloading both Buffy and Angel from the internet, and I´m like a little child a christmas, I just can´t wait smiley - biggrin

I saw a picture of Willows new look, she looks great with the new hair...

Oh man, now I miss the show even more, I wanna watch it NOW...

I'm a little bit mixed on it. It definitely had some compelling elements as well as some bits I found a little bit cheesy. I should mention though that the viewing experience was a bit unusual. We prevailed upon a friend to graciously let us tape it off her cable since we used to get UPN by broadcast but the TV transmitter was on top of the WTC. We were explaining things to her at points, so I may have missed some of the punchier dialogue. Now, I'm hoping the cable installers will call us back sometime this century, and that's all I will say on the matter...

I've always thought it would be morbidly amusing to set up a website for "Sunnydale Realtors" running somewhere, and showcasing houses up on the market ("a delightful 3BR. Perfect for new homeowners. Previous owners missing, crosses recommended in case they return." "Classy spacious and furnished 1BR apartment for rent. Former resident was a deranged hell god, but she knew how to decorate! Yours for a steal.", etc.

What about the new Star Trek series, Enterprise?

We, in the UK have to wait until the New Year.

Is it any good and will it be worth the wait?

Don't ask me. I'm not really a Star Trek fan. I've heard other people say it's mostly good though, although the opening credit music is atrocious.

I won't hold my breath then.

Sky usually shows Buffy within a couple of weeks of airing in the US, so hopefully we sahll be watching it soon.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Angel, I believe Fox haven't taken up the option on renewing the series.

I liked the new StarTrek, but there were some oddities (I'm not that die hard of a Trekie where I get upset at discrepancies in the whole StarTrek saga). Seeing how they start using some of the standard issue items (phasers and the transporter) is neat!

Buffy was a bit so-so smiley - erm I thought. But there was some good banter between the scoobies.

I am not a dyed in the wool Trekkie either, I watch it for entertainment and special effects.

I do hope they are going to explain the change in appearance of the Klingons though! That should be amusing.

Oh, they sooo won´t explain the whole Klingon thing... I mean how could they???

"Oh you see... first they had big foreheads, then they mutated into having none at all and then they mutated back again..." smiley - erm I don´t think so...

Or just figure it this way...

The original StarTrek had a tiny buget and could only afford some brown make-up and a few bad hair pieces. Now they have a bigger buget and can buy all the neat special effects and silicon prostheses that they need to make the aliens look like aliens and not just guys with bad make-up jobs.
