A Conversation for The Other Side of the Stargate
The Peoples Democratic Republic
U187657 Started conversation Oct 30, 2005
A very strange world: some unknown agency made it follow the geography and history of Earth, up until about hundred years ago when the Great Disaster happened.
After that the planet came to be dominated by a single political entity known as the Peoples Democratic Repubic of Birmingham, which originated in Birmingham England as (apparently) as a Communist dictatorship. This has mellowed over the years into a benevolent, paternalistic world government that is at the approximate same level of technology as Earth. Current trends indicate that the government will probably dissolve itself within 10 to 20 years and a kind of anarcho-enviromentalist-communalist-individualist psuedo government will take over.
SG scientists are fascinated by this planet: the inhabitants think of themselves as the orginal Earth, and our Earth as the pretender. As far as anyone can tell there is no way to be sure on the issue: they have apparently the exact same fossil record and geological and social history as Earth (up until the Great Disaster that is).
Current theories include:
- A Noxx piece of artwork
- An Ancient experiment
- A Replicator training ground
- An Asgard renegade's research project.
The current Chairman of the Central Committee of the Peoples Democratic Republic welcomes SG researchers to his planet and asks them to share any and all research with the community.

As I have said before this RPG follows the TV series, if you can point to me which episode in which series the Peoples Republic of Birmingham appeared (Is that Birmingham UK or Birmingham Alabama) I'll let you keep it

- I give up: I was trying to be funny and original and join in with something that looked fun, but obviously I am not welcome.
For the record - where in the TV series is "General Craxus" head of the SGC? - or "Colonel Reefgirl" head of SG1? - and where is the Goa'uld named "Lug"? Where is P4X-092, MA2-491, or P4X-204? - all of which have been created by OTHER people, but NONE of which are mentioned in the Star Gate omnipedia at http://www.gateworld.net/omnipedia/ - and I suppose you cannot get more "official" and "mentioned in the TV series" than THAT.
Where for that matter are O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Carter and Teal'c?
Oh - sorry - my mistake: everyone else here is playing around in the SG universe and seems to be "inspired" by the series, without necessarily being verbatim or canon.
If the requirement is to follow the TV series how come you can play with all of the characters and plot, and I cannot invent a world as other people have done? - surely a new world in the SGC universe is the most minor of inventions: no one HAS to visit it! And yet you've erased the characters that are at least 90% of MY motivation for watching the TV show.
Nice even handed application of your own rules there: keep it up.

If you're going to be that pedantically picky may be it's best if you don't join

Or here A5942207 I wouldn't try the Jedi Academy if I were you, they're more tight about the rules than I am
See Ya

Well - I WAS coming here cos' it looked "fun": how wrong I was...
And suddenly it's ME being "pedantic"? I did NOT accuse someone of not following the TV series when not doing it myself!
And I am consciously and specifically NOT accusing anyone of anything: I simply want to know how I cannot create this planet when others have done so.
You've not answered that question - instead you've descended to name calling. Are you going to answer me or not?

What question?

"Why I cannot make up a new planet when other people can"

Maybe if you had asked first instead of blundering in like you owned the place, maybe if you'd taken the time to look through some of the threads to see how the game is played, checked on some of the links and explained what you were intending to do, I wouldn't have got upset.

Oooooookay: that's fair: I know I can get carried away with enthusiasm for the PDRB as it is such a wonderfully silly concept (I even registered the site I am that sad...)
So: in order: sorry for blundering in. I saw that SG existed on my old friend H2G2 and thought that the PDRB could be a weird world that exists in the Universe through the star gate.
No - I did not read the rules: in my keen-ness to tell other people about the PDRB I just dove striaght in.
Again: sorry. Here's something to make up: and
If I rename it as P7Q-489 can it stay?!
... or rather P7Q-489 as it is now known.......
Reefgirl (Brunel Baby) Posted Oct 30, 2005
Apology accepted
And P7Q-489 can stay, ONLY if you play withing the confines of the TV series and it maybe sometime before your planet gets noticed because we have another story unfolding now
So Join up as a Goa'uld, make another conversation with P7Q-489 in the title, Make alliencies, cos there's not many Goa'uld we make them up as we need them.
... or rather P7Q-489 as it is now known.......
U187657 Posted Oct 30, 2005
Right then: consider P7Q-489 as a "potential" planet: if anyone wants to discover it they can: until and unless that happens then it exists only in my fevered imagination...
And I might jusst have to nip over there and join up as a Goa'uld.....

Feel free, we're in desperate need of Bad Guys
... or rather P7Q-489 as it is now known.......
U187657 Posted Oct 30, 2005
Izzat so?!
Right then: lemme look up the House Rules and I will get medieval on ya!
I don't want to step on anyones toes unitentionally this time! (of course, annoying people deliberately is quite different!)
Expect a dark and potent bad guy soon!
Can I play one of the New Bad Guys? TM
y'know - a Wraith or an Ori.. or a semi-ascended Goa'uld?
(please excuse me whilst I indulge in the oldest tradition of RPG's: Trying to Blag Goodies From the GM....)
... or rather P7Q-489 as it is now known.......
Reefgirl (Brunel Baby) Posted Oct 30, 2005
Um Wraith is Atlantis and we havn't got that far yet, I will start on trips to the Pegasus Galaxy soon tho, we'll have to wait for the Orii I think as not everyone can see it on Sky, but if you want to have a serch for a decent Goa'uld cover go ahead, if you fancy being Ba'al I have no objections
This is a good place to have a look around http://www.gateworld.net/sg1/index.shtml to get upto speed on the Stargate universe
And this will tell you everyhting you need to know about mythology http://www.pantheon.org/
