That's fine and I'm proud of my number too. You still have it. It just makes it very hard on community based people to talk to you. But up to you of course. Maybe you could add a bit - like a couple of ** so making you more recognisable?

I suppose I must add my name to the backlog of those offering to help with the backlog (such a good way of putting it Si) despite my hesitation to be seen crawling around admitting such a thing. Ah, well. I think sub-editors are nice, but then I think rain is wet, so who am I to judge?

Hey, thanks. Thanks to Pastey too. (You don't talk too much - it's good to have someone to break the ice, and you literaly managed to smash it into tiny pieces). Aw gawsh, nice to know we're appreciated.

Why do I get the feeling that we are going to end up with 9,999 sub-editors and one poor soul writing the articles!

Everyone wants to be a chief rather than an Indian (particularly if there's money or kudos involved)!

Sub-editor schrub-editor! What these people need is clearly a deputy editor and they'd be well advised to advertise for one is somethng like, oh I don't know, today's Media Guardian.
Ah, excellent, how unbelievably opportune! My application is in the post.
Good job, keep up the good work!
Zainen Posted Aug 17, 1999
I want to personally thank you all for your time and effort into making this my NEW FAVORITE SITE!!! I don't even check my mail anymore (unless I think the is a rejection notice from the office). Once agian, thank you.
Good job, keep up the good work!
Pseudemys Posted Sep 8, 1999
I'll second that! This is the only site on the entire Web that I check every day. And, sitting on the floor the other day drinking absinthe, I wondered to myself whether any more editors were needed. And, hip hooly, what have we here? A place to volunteer. Step forward, that man. Thankyou.
Good job, keep up the good work!
SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Sep 16, 1999
You sure the floor's a safe enough place to be drinking absinthe? You might fall onto the ceiling.

I have already offered my services in another forum (possibly waiting for editorial catch-up), and shall offer again here. Credentials: a stack of columns of early writing waiting for Guide Approval; am seeking election as Virtual Mayor of London; tend to prefer deep thought and reasoned argument (and long sentences and big words); Mum and Dad both worked in libraries in UK and Canada; I'm surrounded by books (mostly sf and reference); and am almost a trained power-user on a G3.
Even if you don't select me, perheps you'd vote for me???

Thanks for volunteering!
I am going through the lists, starting at the top. I will contact everyone who has volunteered by email.
Good job, keep up the good work!
Patria Posted Oct 29, 1999
I'd be glad to help you out, so I'll volunteer 8)
Good job, keep up the good work!
Peta Posted Nov 11, 1999
Thanks Patria - We are just having a pause in recruitment in order to train our last batch of Subs.
We haven't forgotten anyone on the list and really appreciate everyone's willingness to get involved.
Thanks thanks thanks!
Good job, keep up the good work!

I have no idea what I am doing here. But I thought I'd indicate that I had passed this way.

Don't you hate people who revive unwanted threads after a solid 18-week dormant period? Oooh, I do.
Err.
Well.
That's not the point... I should have done this months ago. But I didn't. Because so many other people were. I hate adding to an overload. But now it's been 18 weeks so it seems safe enough... I would like to have my page scanned for style too, when someone gets a free moment.
