What's on your desk?

Post 1

TheSensibleFool

I've just cleared my desk of clutter, which was something I should have done ages ago - or I could have just stayed on top of the clutter and not allowed it to get like that in the first place. But, I digress.

Right now I have:

* monitor
* speakers and volume control gizmo
* desk fan (In this weather, yes I know; but I'm too lazy to unplug it and stash it somewhere)
* broadband modem
* laptop
* keyboard
* wireless mouse

You can omit the obvious monitor/keyboard/mouse entries for the sake of relieving monotony. smiley - smiley

Ok, I've *not* cleared my desk in a while, so:

Monitor
Midi tower
keyboard
mouse on its little mat
speakers
scanner

two lamps - one red with little wheels, one penguin-shaped

a glass pitcher and small clay beaker for water - they're always there - and a bowl of chocolate left over from my advent calendar

brown leather writing mat, green plastic cutting mat

several bowls, an old red tin drill bit case that's now a pen holder, a few tins and boxes with pens

inking pens, boxes of nibs, several different bottles of ink, old peanut-butter jar for washing them out

rulers, straight and curved, for cutting and drawing

scalpels, carpet knives, pliers, wire, string, soldering iron

huge bottle of wood glue, smaller bottles of other glue, tape of various kinds, and a frog-shaped sellotape dispenser

a tensegrity model (A40513295 smiley - whistle) and a 1:200 scale model of a rather boring street somewhere upriver

some books for Uni, some comic books, some books I just happened to be reading

sewing thread, needles, small beads, half a dozen snap hooks

playing cards, camera, maps, some CDs, stray rings and brooches

And for some reason, a thermometer, a clotheshanger, and a bag of jelly babies smiley - yuk

All this is buried under a drift of sketching paper, mail, and bits of cardboard and styrofoam.

In short, the usual smiley - winkeye

Fascinating.

You really learn about people by their surroundings I think.

Taff: I don't think I can tell. Probably an avid reader but that's poor conclusion-jumping based on your Books For Schools card. smiley - book

Malabarista: I guess you must be quite an artist/hobbyist/craft project...ist then? Your desk sounds interesting. smiley - smiley

Reading through all the stuff I listed makes it sound as if my desk is really cluttered, but actually its very neat and tidy, most of the very* small items are strickly speaking not on the desk but on a shelf which is an integril part of the desk underneath, I didn't include the lower shelf there as that is effectively floor level, and had a bunch of other audio things on it, most I think of which are broken smiley - doh
The unit to the side of the desk is quite cluttered and mainly contains cables other bits of audio stuff (including a cuica, tamborine, shaker, samba whistle, funny scrapy musicy thing, finger piano, as well as a shelf dedicated to financial documents and also spare CDrs and CD cases and I think* a whole load more CDROMS) smiley - dohsmiley - angel I'm thinking of chucking this desk and building one myself into the space so it more effectively used the availible area smiley - geek

Mine's all messy again already - two clip-art books, sketchbook, a few pencil drawings and a few inked ones, roll of butterpaper, ruler, pens, nibs, ink, and rags... How does it happen so fast? smiley - headhurts

Also, the salt and pepper shakers. They tend to live here, because I eat at my desk so often.
