The rape of Scooby Doo
Niz (soon to be gone) Started conversation Mar 13, 2001
An event is happening at this moment that pushes any boundry of taste. In the U.S a live action version of Scooby Doo is being filmed for what is no doubt going to be a shocking mess of a film.
I have glimpsed the production photos and seen the actors in costume and I can say that I nearly cried
Has anyone else seen this un-called for rape of a piece of classic tv?
Everyone loves Scooby and Shaggy and I was going to start a petition against this travesty but it seems I am too late

I have heard about it and was sickened. I guess that noone can come up with good movie scripts so know they have to bastardize all of our favorite TV shows.
They have also made/making a "Jossie and the Pussycats" movie.
Just look at what they did to "Mr. Magoo", "Lost in Space", "the Brady Bunch" (as if the first movie wasn't bad enough they made a sequil),"Bullwinkel", "George of the Jungle" and "Dudley DoRight", they are killing all my old childhood TV favorites. Isn't anything sacred anymore?

I have seen the trailer to the Josie and the pussycats movie and boy it sucks. I think it all started with the He-man movie, now that was a bad film!!!

I really enjoyed 'George of the Jungle' but then, I never saw the original, so I can't judge how debased it might have been.
If you're looking for dire versions of Children's favourites, surely the worst offender was 'The Flintstones'? A movie which, if memory serves, had something like 32 different writers working on it at one time or another, and still turned out to be appalling. The best joke in the whole film was the prehistoric image of Earth used in the Universal logo at the beginning.

Your right that film was awful but seeing shots from the scooby movie and the trailer from Josie, The Flintstones could quite easily look like a work of genius in comparision. Both the Josie trailer and scooby photos are out there.

Oh yeah, the Flintstones. I forgot aboout that load of crap. You know they made a prequel to that of how Fred and Wilma got together? I don't know how they did it, but they made it worse than the first movie.

Sara Michelle Geller (Buffy) is going to play Betty. But thats the only person from the show that I heard is going to be in it.

I think the Buffy rumour is just that. Not true, last I heard, even SMG as Daphne.

That's what I ment Daphne. But it's a rumor you say?

Any true scooby Doo fan will have to agree with you. Anyone who likes it is in love with the name but the characters, nor can they makes any claims of nostalgia. the costumes, accents and themes are all differnt.

Well, if imdb is to be believed, I stand corrected. However, I *did* read a short quote from SMG in a print magazine saying she wasn't interested. And SMG + Freddie Prinze Jr smacks a bit of stunt casting, since they are currently going out together.
If I were SMG I'd be looking for film roles which took me away from the supernatural...

It is definitely true, sadly I have seen the picture as shooting is underway right now.
The costumes are carbon copies of the ones in the cartoons and look slightly odd.
Scooby himself will be computer generated, it is rumoured that Pamela Anderson will play a damsel in distress.

Rowan Atkinson is playing the film's villain Mondavarious and Velma is Linda Cardellini.

Scooby Doo was a raping of good taste in the first place. I grew-up watching this crappy show as well as others, and have been trying to recover ever since. Scooby Doo was truly heinous pseudo-entertainment that is responsible for 95.2% of mind decay experienced worldwide!

Did you know 98.7% of all statistics are made up?
Give Scooby a break. It's just mindless cartoon entertainment ment to occupy children. Leaving the parrents free to do other things.
Given, it's not a good babysitter but not a bad way to waste some time.

Most terrible in the light that William Hanna, Scooby's creator, just died today.
But, more to the fact, it shows that Hollywood has no new ideas.
Creativity is dead.
