Hello! Glad to see you're still around.
It sounds as though you did plenty of grand-children minding over the holidays. My best friend has three children (the eldest of whom has just turned 17, which makes me feel very old) and she always says that she misses them when they go back to school after the long summer holidays. Most of my other friends can't wait to get their little blighters back into School, but Judy seems to really love having her kids around. I have to admit that they are very nice children.
College is mad now that all our delightful(!!) Further Education students are back. There has already been so much vandalism at the bottom of N block stairs that today we have had a security lock put on the door so that students cannot get through. The area where I work is a research centre so the students have no need to come up here. There is a cash point machine out in the front car park and the students seem to have smashed that up too. Ungrateful little *******s, they don't deserve and education! The Higher Education students start back next week but they are older and far more civilised.
I'm busy typing up an application for a project funded by the EU that my department is bidding for but my colleague is only bringing me the information in dribs and drabs so I intend to hang about Get Writing/H2G2 in between typing jobs.
Bye for now

Looking on H2G2 at midnight? Oh dear! I was in bed long before then, but probably not asleep unfortunately. I got woken up at 4:45 by my boyfriend coming in from work and then I woke up twice more before my alarm went of so I am feeling a little lack lustre this morning. It's a good job it's the weekend now and I can catch up with some sleep.

hi liz,i go to sleep so late that if billy came in at that hour i wouldnt hear him!!!thats probably because he keeps me awake half the night snoring!!!you sound as if work is getting to you a bit,i cant understand why people dont respect their surroundings where ever they are.if someone treated their property so badly they'd be the first to complain and shout about it...or would they??makes you wonder, doesnt it??xxxx

Hi Sal
Yes, I am a bit fed up with working at the college now. I've only been here for a year. I applied for a job in another department a couple of weeks ago. It was a more senior post than the one I presently occupy so I didn't really want it if I am honest. They gave the job to an administrator already working in that area and now her old position is vacant. I only found out this morning and I have already missed the deadline to apply so I am a bit miffed.
I have now joined the college pension scheme and that, coupled with the fact that I want to move house next year, makes me think I should stay here for a bit longer yet. I would prefer it if I could get into a different department now as I am thoroughly bored with CREATE. I would really like to work in the HE area because they get a better class of student!

I'm an administrator in a research centre at Suffolk College. Before that I was a Credit Controller and before that I've had about eight other jobs. Hard to please, me. I've always hated getting up for work in the mornings. I still entertain the faint hope that one day I will find a job that I don't loathe and detest, but after 20 years I am starting to doubt that such a job exists.
It is now three months since I was on holiday so I probably just need another break.

hi liz,you sound as though you havent found a job thats really what youre looking for .i think everyone should have the sort of job that makes them feel like singing when they get up in the morning,,,,,,,,but i dont have a job,and i never get up feeling like singing!!!!it was the thirteenth of august when we got back,,,and i really feel as though i need another break, maybe we could just blame how we feel on the weather eh?????or the fact that we'd be quite happy somewhere nice and sunny..not too expensive, and with a decent lottery win in the bank!!!!how does that sound!!!

Lizzbett Posted Sep 25, 2003
A lottery win is my only hope I think!
I fancy that I might go to University if I won enough money to enable me to give up work.
The HR department let me apply for the Admin job in the HE Registry even though the closing date is passed. However, I cannot make their proposed interview date, so I have probably wasted my time. Never mind. My present job is far from being the worst I have had so I shall just carry on doing this until something else comes along. At present, it is very convenient for where I live and if I were to go and work somewhere else, it would have to have a great deal going for it.
My colleague Harvey would agree with you about the weather. He keeps some livestock at home and he says we humans are just like the animals and are affected by the changing seasons in the same way. Personally, I think that animals that hibernate have got the right idea. I could happily go to bed in November and get up again in March!

hi liz,i think that sounds good.i wouldnt mind hibernating,as long as i could have my creature comforts..just in case i did wake for a while!!!!i thinkif i won the lottery i would have to buy one of those light box things.......just in case i was away from the sunshine for a while!!!i have my diaries some as far back as the late 80's,and it looks as though ialways get
at this time of year.. i suppose its what they call SAD now.it's a shame you cant make the job interview,it might have been just what you needed..but i'm a bit of a believer in fate,so maybe it wasnt meant to be.it is nice to see you on line more often, are you enjoying the exta time you can spend in here??there are some realy interesting pages.suppose i should go now,and make this house look as though ive been busyish!chat soon.

How much time I spend on the DNA sites rather depends on what is happening at work. I had one day this week when I didn't get on at all. Often I find I can have a browser window open that I just pop in and out of when no one is looking. Today my boss is on annual leave so I envisage a fairly pleasant day of popping in and out of the Internet and possibly even writing something. If I did get a job in another department, I probably wouldn't get as much opportunity to mess about on-line.
I don't go on-line at home much because my connection is so much slower. When I'm rich and famous I shall get a better computer and broadband!

good morning liz, then i shall have to put you on my list of "friends in need of "when i win the lottery!!!!then you can have the pc,complete with broadband!!!
i can remember when we had a day at work with nobody"in charge"...it used to be a good feeling.i hope you enjoy your popping in and out.i saw a page i hadnt seen before when ii was nosing round last night,it was get writing.i didnt have a look round ,bu it looked interesting.we dont have broadband..i think if you use the pc a lot then maybe its worth it..but we dont use ours so much that it warrants the extra money they charge!!!!i do think its quite expensive.i told myself i wouldnt come on here much today,,,i have loads to do ,but here i am...havent been up that long..its the first thing i do!!!if i dont catcj you again, have a good weekend liz,and i'll look forward to hearing from you on minday.salxxxx

I'm on Get Writing! It's rather good but I haven't submitted any work to it yet.
I've got Broadband access at work but not at home. I don't use the internet much at home so I am still on pay as you go. I think you have to use the internet a great deal for it to be worthwhile going onto a pre-paid internet package, but I may do so one day.
My brother and his flat mate have broadband as part of a cable TV and 'phone package and, including all the television channels, it costs the just over £50 per month! I think I will stick to my dial-up computer link and terrestrial telly thanks!
See you next week.

£25 a month for the 'phone? Blimey! I only pay £15 on an ordinary BT line. I speak to my Mum and Grandma on the 'phone every week and obviously I have the dial up for my Internet link, but other than that, I don't use the 'phone a tremendous amount. When I first moved to Suffolk 15 years ago I wasn't on the 'phone and so kept in touch with people by letter. I still keep in touch with my friends who live away (Lincolnshire, Scotland, France and Germany) by either letter or e-mail. I have a couple of friends that I speak to on the telephone but not all that frequently.
I saw my Mum & Dad yesterday. They had come down from Lincolnshire for the day, but not specifically to visit me. We went to lunch at my Auntie Irene's. She lives at Felixstowe, which is only about 15 miles away. A cousin of my Mum's from New Zealand was supposed to come, but she cancelled. We don't see much of Auntie Irene, for no particular reason other than she and my Mum don't have a great deal in common. We had a nice time and caught up on some family news. Irene is very interested in researching our family tree and has some wonderful old photographs. She had a picture of my great-grandparents taken on their wedding day in 1898!
Hope you had a nice weekend.
Cheers for now.

It's taking you a long time to get out of that dressing gown missus!
I hope you are well. I'm feeling surprisingly fit considering that I have been very busy decorating and working in the garden for the past couple of weeks. I managed to fall down the stairs yesterday, but apart from a sore bum and a bruised arm, I appear to be fine!
Cheers

aaawww liz,it would have been better if you'd been slightly the worse for drink.....they say that you dont hurt yourself if you fall then...cos youre supposedly relaxed!!!!!i hope youre okay and the bumps dont hurt too much.i hate decorating....i used to do it all myself ..and enjoy every minute of it,but i get sooooo cross now,cos i have to have someone do it for me,and i want to be able to do it myself.i cant say that i used to love painting, but the wallpapering was great.i'm actually out of my dressing gown today....but it is 12.30ish,so i should be.i vote you have stress free weekend next week...retail therapy and a nice meal to make up for the extra hard work youve been doing!!!!xxx
