I've added you now. Sorry it took so long, I was about to add you last night but my friends called on me asking if i wanted to play snooker so I didn't get a chance
Yeah, I am quite a big A-F fan. 'A new kind of army' is probably their best album, although 'Die for the government' and 'Underground Network' are good too. Why are Pipedown scary?

just the screaming. They're ok but i don't really like the hardcore punk. i dont see the screaming adds anything to the music most of the time.
I'm going to see Less Than Jake in May!!!

Less than Jake have never really done it for me but my mate has seen them live and they are supposed to be brilliant.

I like Less Than Jake, they're really popular, that puts some poeple off, but if you're into ska punk, you won't be dissapointed. (I was raised listening to Madness, so my love of punk and ska mixed was a godsend!)
i've got the limited edition version of "borders and boundaries" which has some live tracks on the end. They can't particularily play live, but i'm going for the atmoshpere. the gig has sold out, so a whole hall full of people skankin' should be cool!

Just because a band is popular shouldn't mean you can't enjoy 'em.
Some of the early punk stuff ie: Clash, Damned, Pistols etc now get radio play but don't take away the impact of them.
Like what you like and f**k what people think

Exactly *dances around to Take That*
Punk is good, pop is good, music is good as long as you like it. Except for Celine Dion, of course.

Good god have I missed a lot the past few weeks! I see mention of Joy Division, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Voodoo Glow Skulls, and BRMC, all personal faves of mine! Skugga, I love the Furs, too. Funny reading here about The Bad News, as I was just listening to them the other day.
Does anyone else here like Wendy O. Williams/ the Plasmatics? How about Social Distortion, the Youth Brigade, or T.S.O.L.?
Hey, Purple Moose, I like ska too. I've long been a fan of Madness, Fishbone, and the like. Remember a band called Amazulu? They appeared on The Young Ones once and played a song called 'So Much Love'.

Whoever likes the Psychedelic Furs should love Interpol. I'm dying to get hold of their album.

I've got the Interpol album - it's good.
Which Youth Brigade are you referring to, psychoandy?
Hey, I wants to be a member!
Number Six Posted Mar 15, 2003
Interpol album's not bad... somewhere between Joy Division and the Cure, I'd say. There was a song on it that heavily reminded me of a Joy Division song, and I couldn't work out for the life of me which one... I spent about half an hour listening to the intros of my various albums and it turns out it's 'Disorder', the first track on 'Unknown Pleasures', and it kicks a substantial amount of arse! Has anyone seen the film '24 Hour Party People'?

Disorder is my favourite Joy Division song...
GOT TO GET THE INTERPOL ALBUM!!!

Good choice! I think mine's 'Shadowplay'. Or else 'Novelty', which is on the 'Substance' compilation and heavily underrated...
Have had many happy minutes thumping out the bassline to Shadowplay and pretending to be Peter Hook, though!

Mr. T- I wasn't aware that there was more than one Youth Brigade! The band I'm referring to hails from Southern Cali, formed around 1980, and after doing their own thing for a few years in the late '80s, is still together, with a new album due out this year. A couple of tunes which spring to mind are 'Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In', 'My Bartender', and 'Not Gonna Take It'.
I LOVE the Interpol album- great stuff!!

Aha, you were referring to BYO's Youth Brigade ( http://www.byorecords.com/bandpage.php?band=youthbrigade ). The other Youth Brigade were a very short lived early Dischord band ( http://www.dischord.com/bands/youthbrigade.shtml ). I have the BYO Youth Brigade's "Best Of". It's got a few great tracks, but they're not one of my favourite bands.

Just thought I'd drop by because I've spotted something in Peer Review on the music scene in Perth, Australia... it's here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F48874?thread=257921 The content is pretty good but tadpole, the author, is new to h2g2 and could probably do with a bit of a hand to get it up to Edited Guide standards... anyone got a moment to pop over there and help him out? Cheers, Number Six

psychocandy, no i've never heard of them, i haven't really heard much 'modern or new' ska, but i like the Dancehall Crashers and The Aquabats. The Aquabats are really cool, they play really silly songs.
Has anybody heard of Audio Karate (except for during my ranting and raving.)???
