The most timeless movie has to be Casablanca. Set in the 2nd World in Moracco it tells of a nightclub owner called Rick who assists in selling exit visas for those who want to escape Nazi Europe and got to the non-occupied countries. Rick meets his former lover, a French resistence fighter woman who he meets again at his night club and wants to obtain an exit visa for her and her husband, also a French resistance fighter. Rick comes from a neutral stance to a supporter of the French resistance movement. One of the most moving moments are when everyone in the Nightclub starts singing the Marseilles which results in the night club being closed down.smiley - smiley

I wonder if anyone remembers the film called The Man in the White Suit. It starred Sir Alex Guiness and it was about a man who invented material that never got dirty, never got wet and never got worn and which he got made into a white suit.smiley - smiley

I think The Man In The White Suit is on ch4 one afternoon this week if anyone wants to enjoy it again smiley - smiley

& although its not strictly a "film" (more like an epic mini-series) is anyone else catching The Children Of Dune at 9pm on Saturday? I almost missed it with it being on the somewhat obscure Hallmark channel!? I know it may be initially baffling if you haven't read the novels but its still a cut above the average sci-fi! smiley - smiley

A play that I have not seen but read about is the Midsummer's night dream - set in Greece but with English joiners working as actors. It was like a play within a play.smiley - smiley

I'm talking about the remake... not the original [though i do intend to watch it one of these days]...smiley - disco

Perhaps it's the fact that the first time i saw it was in a cinema in Leicester Square [London] and it was the preview... My friends and i were just living the French Club near by and found ourselves with tickets [free of charge] in our hands.. So we thought "why not?!" and sure didn't regret it for one second... The ambiance was great... everyone in the cinema was singing along...smiley - star

Oh did i say i like that movie?!...smiley - smiley

If any of you got a chance to rent/buy the video/DVD it's worth doing it [and nope i'm not getting any money for plugging it..smiley - whistle].

Hi everyonesmiley - smiley

Does anyone remember the film Runner (starred Arnie) about a police officer who was falsely accused of murdering a crowd of people who were wanting food. Then after he escaped from prison he and his other friends were forced to literally run for their life and fight (one-side) against foes with deadly weapons while they had no weapons.

Star Wars The Movies

The original Star Wars trilogy (Episodes IV, V, and VI in story order) is about the Galactic Civil War. In this war the Rebel Alliance battles the Galactic Empire in an epic struggle between good and evil. Young Luke Skywalker, training to become the last (and the first of a new generation) of the mystical warriors known as the Jedi. He may be the only person who can stand against Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith and his master, Emperor Palpatine.

The prequel trilogy (Episodes I, II, and III) portray the events leading up to the Galactic Civil War, with the fall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire. Starting from the Battle of Naboo between Naboo and the Trade Federation through to the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. These wars are secretly orchestrated by the Sith under the mysterious Darth Sidious, who secretly controls both sides. The prequel trilogy centers around the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, who was trained as a Jedi after the Battle of Naboo but gradually turns to the Dark Side of the Force, eventually becoming Darth Vader under the counsel of Palpatine in Episode III.

The films draw extensively on the archetypal figures and themes of classical literature. They are based on the concept of "the Force", an energy which can be controlled by someone born with the innate ability and then trained to perfect his, her, or its skill. The Force can be used to move objects, read or control minds, or even influence the outcome of large battles. A person trained who is in the use of the "Light Side" of the Force is a Jedi; someone trained in using the "Dark Side" for evil is a Dark Side user or a Dark Jedi.

In Star Wars the film stresses the self-destructive nature of anger and hate, which is summed up in Yoda's words "Fear is the path to the dark side: fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (16 May 2002)
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (scheduled release 19 May 2005)
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (25 May 1977) original title was Star Wars; the first Star Wars movie to be released
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (21 May 1980) (or simply "The Empire Strikes Back")
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (25 May 1983) (or simply "Return of the Jedi")
The recurring leitmotif of the Star Wars Imperial March is one of the best known movie musical themes. Another well-known piece of music created for Star Wars is Duel of the Fates.

All of the original films were shot at, among other locations, Elstree Studios. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was filmed at Leavesden Film Studios and the subsequent prequels were filmed in Sydney, Australia. Tunisia has served as the location for filming scenes set on the desert planet Tatooine in A New Hope, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.

Here is a film that I really smiley - love and I can relate to the characters. It is the X-Men III The Last Stand about the cure for mutants to take their abilities away. The cure is an vacine which is made from a mutant boy on Alcatrass Island (I am not sure about the spelling), in the first shots of the movie you will see the writer of the X-Men. In the previous X-Men II if you watch careful the prison guard who is guarding Magneto is in a bar before he meets Mystique and gets his smiley - ale bottoms up. You will see in the corner of the bar a tv screen with a man called Doctor Hank Mc Coy being interviewed about the attack on the president and Magnetto's release. In X-Men III Beast aka Doctor Hank Mc Coy is the ambassador of mutant affairs.
