Digestive System

Since most of what we eat in modern life is responsible for so many of our ailments, I'd re-design the digestive system to filter out more of the stuff that we love to eat but which causes us such harm.
Either that, or re-educate our brains to be more careful about what we send down our throats.
(Hic!)

While we're at it, let's make our appendix work again, instead of just periodically clogging and causing potentially fatal infections. Imagine eating the paper your hamburger came wrapped in too!

What if we redesigned ourselves so we did not have to eat at all, but could get nutrition another way. (Not sure how though) then we would not have to worry about over indulging and ever expanding waist lines.

There's always photosynthesis. But then we'd all have green skin and be nudists. Not that it would be a bad thing.

Better idea is to allow digestion of tough plant matirials, as posted. a second or third stomach is generaly a help, but a way to digest methane into useable energy wouldn't go a mis.

How about we genetically modify a kind of algae to live in our blood? Then we let the algae grow and our bodies digest it.
Yes we would be green, and have to be naked, and have to get our proteins, fats, and vitamins from other sources. But on the plus side you would never starve, unless you were trapped in a cave...

I like this.
Who do we put our suggestions to in order to get something done?

It may not work as well as you hope, the design means that the level of light that reaches your blood though you epedermis isn't to great, if you stick it in your skin and it would just die all the time, I propose that great big leaves (or simila) should be grown from the tops of peoples heads.

But maniac, I enjoy eating. I do it in reasonable moderation, but I don't want to give it up alltogether.

Amanda Posted Feb 10, 2003
Maybe we could just eat for pleasure, without the hassle of weight gain.
And use photosynthesis or whatever for survival and to get the actual good stuff we need.

As long as your willing to stick your hand in some gravel for a while, some of the phosphers and sulphers are interestingly needed with photo synthasis.

Lack of eating isn't a problem.
See, whenever you're in the sun, you'll be generating energy, so you'll be "eating". Just standing outside will feel like eating! I think we won't have to worry about losing the pleasures of consumption.

OK so I flattly object to that... how are programmers, hackers and generaly weird'os suposed to live? I'm a programmer, and I love being up in the middle of the night. plus it means night clubs would be useless, people would get tired as soon as it got dark.

The night clubs could have like Natural light emulaters/simulators so we would think we were in day light.

thats both is expensive and detracts from the point of nightclubs, how can you slink away to a corner and hide, if the whole place looks like a sunny day hit it?

Good point Doc. What about a room you could go to to recharge?
Digestive System
DoctorMO (Keeper of the Computer, Guru, Community Artist) Posted Feb 17, 2003
It's not effecient enough, you'd need power outlets and cordless recharging packs. (at the thought of people going around with plugs)
