So here I am....
Vicki Virago - Proud Mother Started conversation Dec 29, 2004
...first day back at w*rk for 3 1/2 weeks.
I'm sat here looking at my "to do" list and getting worried already.
Can I cope with this?
Have I come back too early?
People already asking me questions...questions I don't know the answer to as I haven't been here for nearly 4 weeks.
I'm getting the shakes and my heart rate is going through the roof right now.
My mind is racing and I know I need to calm down, but I can't.

It's not a case of working a full or a half day...it's being here at all.
A bad nights sleep last night. There are only 2 of us in from our office and no-one to cover me if I need to take a break or anything

hello, all you have to do is this (only if you want to, of course, no pressure here, just some info which work's for me)
1> smile and say "sorry mate, i don't know the answer to the question"
2> smile and say "look i'm really sorry about this, as i'm not sure about the answer/question as i have been away for a few weeks"
and if their a complete and utter bore/pain or just plain thick'os
3> smile and say "F***off, cus your boring me now"
or a combination of all three
i hope this help's, because i use it all the time, oooooOOOoooooOOooh before i forget, sit back and enjoy the rush of adrenalin of a panic attack cus its better than any med's you can buy/scrip

Agreeing with the Rev here.
It's not your fault you don't have all the answers, so just say that. Nobody is going to yell at you.
Perhaps split everything into a few lists? Things that have to be done soonest to things that can wait a while. Things that aren't going to take a long time. Things you know you can definitely do. That sort of thing. I don't know if it would help though.
Try not to drink coffee or anything like that. I know you're really tired but on top of the panic it would just make you feel more panicky and mess you up. Not to mention probably leave you still feeling tired but unable to sleep tonight!
Keep in mind that you are okay. And if you really really really aren't okay, then admit that and do what it takes to keep yourself together. If you really aren't okay then think of yourself before work. They seem to have been quite understanding so far??

You have done very well VV.
If you do need to cut your hours, do not feel like a failure. You are making a mature, sensible decision, not failing.
Good luck with working and good luck with living.

Take it gently.
Alternaltivly adopt a creative filing policy and borrow the office shredder.
Take care.

Reply to questions with - "Do you know ? I think I forgot to put my knickers on this morning. - Sorry, What did you say ?"
Not many will repeat their question.
Mind you this doesn't work very well for me.

So here we are again.
Back at home. Signed off sick again. This time, for 4 weeks.
I wonder if my job will be safe when I get back, or will they realise they can cope without me *fumbles with fingers*
I feel like a failure. Perhaps I shouldn't feel that way, but I do. I'm trying to get my thoughts back into their little boxes so I can deal with them one at a time, but they just won't fit. They're like little Jack in the Boxes, jumping out at me when I least expect it. Frightening the living daylights out of me.
It's getting a bit difficult to understand why this is happening to me. It's difficult. Very difficult.
I think I need my brother back with his endless supply of blankets to hide under.

Vicki, you are not failure!
your employers know how hard you work for them, but for next few weeks do not even think of work.
think of sleep and counting

Oh ouch vicki.
I know it feels unfair and upsetting and crappy and stupid. This is happening to you, because it happens to someones. You haven't been picked out specially, remember that. Otherwise it all gets a bit paranoid and nasty. It's just something that is happening and you will get through it. I know it might not seem it but you will.
Remember that your friends and family are there for you. Use them. Do what it takes to make you feel normal (except drinking or drugs as then you'll never keep your job). Remember that we are all always here to talk to day or night.

You weren't ready yet, that's all!
Give it some more time, your job will still be there when you feel better!

You made a sensible decision. Now you know to go back slower next time, part-time or maybe work from home if that is possible.
