Hello, I'm new and I have just said a friendly hello to another user, and because a friend set up my personal space for me, he sent a message saying he was going to make my personal space dissapear because I will be spamming if I replied to that message'
I dont know what to do or where to go, and this is the only place I could find.
Can someone please help me?

Hmm. This is odd.
First of all, may I ask who's your friend?
Don't worry, though. If you're being completely honest, there's nothing to worry about. It's just that we've had some problems with people creating new account to harass people and break the <./>HouseRules</.> with.

My friend is known as TheHitMan off yoome2, I dont know what his username is on here, but that is not the point.
I would like to know why people are treating me like I'm some kind of gitty, is this how they treat all the new members? if it is then I'm sorry but it isnt right.
and when I first came, not long ago I thought this was a really nice place with all the help I got when I asked for help.
but that isnt the point either..
The point is, I've just joined and someone has said they will get rid of my personal space for no reason.
If I have done something for him to do that please tell me, but I cannot see anything in my space or messages that break the house rule after reading them.

Okay
Well, I'm frankly not sure why people are treating you as they are. It seems that a few suspect you of being someone you aren't, and I'd imagine that this would be because of a few researchers who we have to be careful of, and make sure they aren't opening new accounts.
Not all new users are treated like this. Actually, you're the first I've seen. But as I say, if you're geniunely new and you've got nothing to hide, then you've got nothing to worry about He certainly can't take away your personal space for no reason, and as long as you've done nothing wrong, this won't happen.
I hope you enjoy h2g2, by the way. We're usually very nice, and I'm sorry that you got this bad impression.

Well, is there some way for me to prove it to them?
and what has this other user done so bad that I've now got the trouble?

It was me, and, despite being warned not to, he did reply. I do not mince my words, and have complained about the PS.

Well, if nothing happens, and you do not break the House Rules, that should prove it.
Other users have spammed, broken the house rules, harassed people, gained GuideML skills, and thus left many very suspicious of new users with good GuideML skills.
You're not in trouble though. Those are just a couple of people - and if you abide by the House Rules, you won't get in trouble at all.
Anyway, I've dropped by your personal space to help your h2g2 experience with some tips and links.

What is wrong with my personal space?
a friend did my space for me, and I have looked at the house rules once again to see if I've missed anything, and there is nothing in my page that breaks the house rules.

I havent got good GuideML skills, as I said, my friend did it for me.

OH, I noticed that it was you.
I think you're jumping to conclusions. You can't treat someone badly because they have a relatively good personal space. And you can't complain about the personal space because they attempted to defend theirselves.

J Posted Feb 1, 2004
Sorry, my mistake. People are worried about new users with complicated and well GuideML-ed personal spaces.
Your personal space doesn't seem to break the House Rules, but some may think it's evidence that you're not a new researcher. It probably won't be removed, though. So no worries

Oh for goodness sake why not leave these people alone UNTIL they break any of the rules before threatening them?
I've got really sick of this site and all the backbiting that has begun to appear here.Frankly I'm sick of thoise who have set themselves up as hitmen for the site looking for any new potential trouble makers.NOW they don't even have to break a rule before you jump on them.
Oh and don't start lecturing me as IF I don't know much about this site.I joined h2g2 pre-Rupert and I don'r remember there being this much trouble then.I frankly am finding it harder and harder to come back here and participate in any way .Not only have the rules got OVERSTRICT but there is a coterie of researchers who seem to spend their time taking offence at everything-even down to someone having a good grasp of guide coding.
What is the proof that this person has done something wrong?I personally think that making threats is a much worse crime.
Incog gets down of rant box.

Liam,
You have admitted it was you again. I think that considering the recent problems, it was a little unfair to claim to be knew and being harassed by another researcher.
However, if you re-read the advice that both myself and Fashion Cat, aswell as the GAs have given you, take it onboard and forget about trying to form groups etc until you know what the site is about, keep you head down, participate in some of the existing groups, threads and various areas on h2g2 then *eventually* all this will be forgotten.
Saying hello to newbies is ok, but I don't think that offering to help them around the site is acceptable when you don't actually know how to do it yourself. Only by knowing and being involved in some of the good places on h2g2 will you be able to pass on these things to new researchers It is about more than being able to offer links which you have had to get from other people.
Please listen to the advice from those of us that have given you the extra chance and prove yourself.
We are always happy to help you, but we do need you to act upon this advice so you can get the most out of h2g2
Mort

(As a retired member of the NHS emergencies staff.)
[ Him claming to be a paramedic and offering himself as an advice provider to people with medical questions without being a registered, current holder of the said paramedic certifications is a criminal offence (see house rules) in this country. Then to come back as a user, claming to be a volunteer member of the St Johns Ambulance service offering help and advice. And stating that they have the same authority to administer drugs and medical procedures AS a Paramedic]
I consider this kind of thing to be a danger.
All I can say is “ thank god for the common senses of the member of this site”.
I don’t mind him trying to be the leader his own gang, as long as he does not disturb the community as a whole.
