as venus said in post 62 -
if a pc user were to log in as a digi user (having received log in details via private email, not on site),
have the validation email sent to their own pc, migrate the details, then change the registered email to the actual digibox user.
Would this work? Obviously the digi user should change the password afterwards.
But is there something on a digibox itself that needs to be done?
If it can be done then i am sure some pc users would be happy to help.

I'm going to try it later and see, but i'm worried about losing my own details if i do this, so far no ones been able to tell me if that would happen

ok - well if it works then i am more than happy to do it for digi users and have an email address i don't mind posting onsite for people to get in touch with me as it is a disposable one i never use much.
It would certainly be great if it does work as people are deprerate to get back on here.
Anyway - let me know

Venus, I think you should leave yours alone. It would be an awful shame if you lost it all while experimenting.
It would be possible for PC user to migrate a digibox user's account on their behalf but it would have to be someone you trusted with your password. As Mort says, the password can be changed directly afterwards.

Although i got back here via my digibox i also have a pc, so would it make a difference to my account if i migrated someone elses on my pc?

i have offered to try it for intern, although he hasnt said got back to me yet. I wasn't sure if there was a cookie type thing on a box that needed triggered by the migration or not.
I agree with Amy, it is all about trust and i would recommend NEVER giving out log on details and passwords to anybody else EVER.
But i would certainly not abuse any trust put in me.
(obviously posting an email addy onsite is no good to those that can't access h2g2 but i figured word of mouth would spread it to those needing help )

Venus, it will be fine to migrate accounts on your PC. I thought you were thinking of trying to do it on your digibox, which would be temptng fate .

Did you give intern the code to change his e.mail validation into a link? Thats the only way it will work so i'm told.
I have 2 friends that have been trying for 2 days now to log back in with no success, i have said to them if its possible i will try and create the e.mail validation required, they trust me with thier details as i would never use or pass them on

do you mean on the online list? that updates itself every 15 minutes so sometimes it will say you are online when you aren't if you have just gone off.
Key: Complain about this post
