Right, the Banneker entry is heading off to PR soon.
As it's a biography of a little-known person *and* involves astronomy, I'm sure it can offend everyone

.... and whatever you do don't let the PR thread end up like The Drawer or you'll have all sorts of people dropping by with suggestions and improvements.

Well, if you have an idea for something that neither one of us knows anything about, that's always a good start.

One of those 6 sent back is maybe finished enough to be submittable.
It's the Divorce Mediation one, 4th in ST's list. The PR thread's here:

Though the now-Elvised Researcher never got round to trying the GuideML, all the other suggestions got incorporated.
Just thought I'd mention it in case someone's looking for a possible pick.

McKay The Disorganised Posted May 26, 2008
Several of my entries have been on Victorian philanthropists (well 3) but the rest have been related to Coventry, but I'm still waiting for the last one to hit the front page, and there is a long queue there.
I was going to suggest that several of my entries had little reaction in PR, but when checking found that each had more than dot and many had names I didn't recognise commenting.
It is only by commenting on new writers that we'll attract new writers, I recall H5ringer's first entry, and if memory serves only myself and GB commented - what a loss that would have been !
Similarly we had a stunning entry, which ended up on the front page, of birds of the Niagra Gorge - but this one was originally withdrawn because of a negative reaction in PR.
Of course against that there have been entries that have reflected fads and crazes or fashion, which perhaps have not been of standard, but have gone through because we try to encourage people.

To us all
That was the Entry which prompted me to become a sub-ed. So h5ringer's the one to blame
I found the PR thread <./>F3780189</.>
and Gnomon and Italic Paully were there as well, plus Matt did a so we can't take all the credit, McKay

Many thanks to everyone for contributing to this discussion. I think it's been a really worthwhile exercise.
I know we've had a few similar discussions in the past. They always clear the air, and they often made us feel better at the time, but have we ever really made things change as a result? This time I really believe we should keep the momentum going.
With your help, I'd like us to agree by some sort of consensus things which we can do as a result of this discussion.
As we can't all get around a table and thrash it out, it's going to take a little time to agree anything, but as a first step I'd like to invite each of you to suggest one or more actions we can take to improve Peer Review in any of the areas we've discussed. Maybe it's a suggestion we can take to the Editors (eg no time limit on picks), or maybe it's an initiative to get some new talent into Peer Review, or a change to the guidelines to improve quality or style? Anything goes, really.
Does that make sense?
I'll create a new thread for your suggestions (as some of you may have unsubscribed from this one), and I'll post the link here shortly.
Icy
