kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

I think I get the idea - I decide on a topic to research for an entry. It is something that seems important and/or interesting. I come and check out the grid and find it might, depending on the interpretation of somebody (EP, the eds?) fall into an 'Amber' category. I now have a choice -
1) I can spend time and effort on the research, construct a great article, submit it to PR, get it through the PR process, have it picked by a scout who interprets the entry as I do (ie 'Green'), get it edited and then have it disappear down a black hole because it is seen as 'Amber' and then binned (which amber things are ok and which aren't? Are there shades of amber?).
or
2) Find it *might* be interpreted as amber so not bother.

It seems the point of this grid is to dramatically cut the number of entries submitted. Maybe it is a ploy to gice the scouts and sub-eds less work to do - then they'll have more time to ensure the bland and unremarkable entries that do get submitted are as complete and perfect as possible.

*sigh*

a girl called Ben

Well, that is more or less exactly what I did with A753527. It took 18 months or so, but ended up mentioned here http://www.guardian.co.uk/netnotes/article/0,6729,999423,00.html the other day.

I accept that for entries which one feels pretty luke-warm about it is a crazy process. But for entries about which one feels passionate, and which will never happen any other way, it isn't too awful. If it results in the entry being published, of course.

Frumious Bandersnatch

One crucial difference, Ben. YOUR entry DIDN'T disappear down a black hole. It's still visible, which is the only reason it got a mention in the Guardian.

My Edited Entry, by contrast, despite the fact that every single comment on it I've seen is positive, has GONE, apparently for good. It'll never appear anywhere. And the worst of it is, I have no idea why, and now you're suggesting that I shouldn't even be ASKING. smiley - grr

We might be able to find some real life magazines in which to publish it...

Meanwhile, I think your nickname might metamorphose into "M. Furious Banned Charts"
