A freind of my brother's was a moderate adams fan, and lent my brother a copy of "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul". My brother finished it, and reccomended it to me. I read it, was entirely pleased with it (in retrospect however, the book's funniest parts are better when you've read the first one, which is unfortunatey out of print in the states.) I was lookng to see what other books Adam's had managed to produce, and i found The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at my book store. Upon reading it, I desperately needed the sequel. After consuming this one, it became a rather long hunt for the next subsequent books in the series, as they were not always stocked at my small bookstore. However, after a while, a accumulated all of the series, as well as a signed copy of Dirk Gently, two copies of Last Chance to See (one of which is probably still somewhere in Chicago aquarium) and quite recently, a small little pocke-sized book titled "the meaning of liff", also out of print in the states, along with Don't Panic, the Douglas Adam's biography, which was never even published state-side. The following things are on my list: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (radio) Collector's Edition, The Deeper Meaning of Liff. Following this I will have nearly all of Adam's works. And all this before my 14th birthday...

it's quite rare, but occasionally adams titles turn up at used bookstores. mid-last year i came across a hardcover (i believe first print even) edition of Dirk Gently in my favorite bookstore, but since have only seen a couple more paperback Dirk Gently's and one So Long and Thanks for All the Fish. altho i had to order my copy of The Meaning of Liff from amazon-uk, i have a pristine, library-covered edition of The Deeper Meaning of Liff that i found at half dot com (didn't pay much for it either). there are a couple other used media sites altho i can't recall the names, half is my favorite.

if i should happen to come across another Deeper Meaning i'll keep you in mind smiley - smiley

I've got hard-back copies of all DNA books from So Long and Thanks for All the Fish onwards. They are my most prized posessions.

By some strange quirk of fate I seem to have three hard-back copies of The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

What do you think of The Meaning of Liff? I use some words from it all the time. e.g. Ludlow.

to be honest with you after i received it i flipped through it a bit and set it on the bookshelf (as i was in the middle of something else at the time) and i haven't really gone through it in depth. i haven't thought about it in awhile, i guess i really should go back and give it the attention it deserves...

The Meaning of Liff is one of those books you keep in the loo and dip into when you have a quiet moment (if you know what I mean smiley - yuk)

It's a sort of dictionary.

Do try and have a go with it because it really is very funny.
