Hi Criag welcome to h2g2 and to peer rewiew, you've made a good start and it's a lot better than most first efforts..

There's just a couple of things that you need to do.. firstly entries to the eg need to be in third person... so you need to remove the references to my band and our website, but you can put them on your personal space...

Also just because you are not interested in getting things listing on searche engines does't mean other people with bands won't be. Perhaps another researcher could help out with the suggestions.

But in Generall Well done smiley - ok

Seems good to me we'll just have to see what the rest of the community thinks..

Yes, seems good to me as well. Most of what is written can also be applied to anyone creating a web site for publicity purposes, not just bands.

I agree. This could really work as a general guide for someone wishing to get publicity (stand-up comedians, actors, singers), not just bands. Just needs a few alterations. I could provide you with some links to comedian listings sites, if you wanted.
Also, with GuideML, there is no need to include the full address of a website, you can simply create a Link tag instead. Usually it makes the entry look a lot tidier, i.e. "BBC Comedy Tickets" as opposed to http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/tickets/index.shtml. (Note, in GuideML only "BBC Comedy Tickets would come up, not all that messy tag stuff).

Ok, what I am going to do is ammend it to be more generic for entertainers looking to use the web for publicity, as opposed to just bands. I will also list a few examples. If any of you have any, please add them and I'll include them

Mikey the Humming Mouse - A3938628 Learn More About the Edited Guide!

What about the differences between having your website on one of the "free" sites with loads of ads (like geocities/yahoo), or paying to have your own site with domain name and all? Any suggestions for good places to host entertainment-related websites?

don't use geocities or freeserve. if you don't manage to visit them often enough, they delete your webspace without telling you. (on a related point, keep an offline copy of your website!)

you don't have to pay extra for a lack of adverts. people like tiscali provide perfectly good webspace with none of that problem.

a domain is a good idea, and getting some of the others at the same time to discourage cybersquaters doesn't hurt.

you might also want to link to zyra's directory of musicians, which includes a lot of bands and links to some other directories. see http://www.zyra.org.uk/mmusic.htm

Before I switched to paying for a web provider and using blueyonder, I found BBC Worldwide's free service (www.beeb.net) very good.

yes, beeb.net is good, but it has some contract problems.

in particular, you are not allowed any commercial content (so you can't sell CD's with your music on them or any other band specific merchandise) and you are not allowed any redirects, so you can't get a domain name and point it at your beeb.net webspace.

other than that I quite like it, but it does sort of make it unusable for your band.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
