I was more than a little suprised that there wasn't a simple 'How to tune yor Geeetaaaw!' entry. So I wrote one. I'll slap some links in but, apart from that, what do you think?

smiley - cheers Oddly there aren't many relevant links to be had, but I've added one and reworded a sentence accordingly.

Good grief. Your formatting is all over the place smiley - smiley

Let me help:

smiley - star No tags. Take every single one out, right now smiley - smiley

smiley - star Every paragraph should start with a and finish with a . No fannying about with tags, if you don't mind.

smiley - star All tags in caps; not

smiley - star Try a list for the tuning, copy and paste:

Bottom (thickest) string: E
Next: A
Then: D
Followed by: G
Then: B
And finally, the thinnest one is: E

Other than that, good, concise entry - nice work smiley - cheers

'H'?smiley - ermsmiley - yikes

The standard octave (which I thought was international) runs from A to G#, there's no room on a keyboard/fretboard for an 'H'!

I'm confused.

I have always favoured the tuning approach originally recommended to me by a bassist.

Get the guy in the shop to tune it - then weld the bl00dy strings in place. smiley - ok

It was * E(ine) a(lte) d(umme) G(ans) h(at) E(ier) ( an old silly goose has eggs) - I think. But then it's so long ago, maybe it was *E(ine) a(lte) d(umme) G(ans) b(rĂ¼tet) E(ier) ( an old silly goose breeds eggs)* ? Must call my sister, she'll know. But I'm quite sure it was the first smiley - erm

Hence the old joke:

Q: 'What's half way between a drummer and a musician?'
A: 'A bassist'.

B'Elana - the thing is in western tunings there isn't a *note* called 'H' and therefore no 'H' string. 'H' would be 'A' (or possibly G#).

Just thought : maybe we are talking abbout the same note, but only have different names for it. The octave goes
C
D
E
F
G
A
H
C

then we have the half notes Cis,dis, es,fis, gis,as,and b

So your octave would be c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c ?

Starting from 'C', yes. It follows our alphabet. Does your alphabet go A H C D E F G then?
