I was more than a little suprised that there wasn't a simple 'How to tune yor Geeetaaaw!' entry. So I wrote one. I'll slap some links in but, apart from that, what do you think?

Nice and simple without all the guff, just what it needs to be
Plus you managed the obligatory AC/DC reference
Link away and I'm happy!
*goes off to did the ol' six string out*

Oddly there aren't many relevant links to be had, but I've added one and reworded a sentence accordingly.

Good grief. Your formatting is all over the place
Let me help:
No tags. Take every single one out, right now
Every paragraph should start with a and finish with a . No fannying about with tags, if you don't mind.
All tags in caps; not
Try a list for the tuning, copy and paste:
Bottom (thickest) string: E
Next: A
Then: D
Followed by: G
Then: B
And finally, the thinnest one is: E
Other than that, good, concise entry - nice work

Ooh, I feel chastened! Corrections done, nice listy thing, the lower case headers were an oversight, and what, pray, is wrong with thingies?
Right, where'd I put the key to the self-flagellation room?

Actually, I have that key - you can have it when you've put the first paragraph into ... tags as well

'Tis done. You can hang on to the key, my neighbour's lending me a Flaggematic 2000 for the night.

'H'?
The standard octave (which I thought was international) runs from A to G#, there's no room on a keyboard/fretboard for an 'H'!
I'm confused.

I have always favoured the tuning approach originally recommended to me by a bassist.
Get the guy in the shop to tune it - then weld the bl00dy strings in place.

It was * E(ine) a(lte) d(umme) G(ans) h(at) E(ier) ( an old silly goose has eggs) - I think. But then it's so long ago, maybe it was *E(ine) a(lte) d(umme) G(ans) b(rĂ¼tet) E(ier) ( an old silly goose breeds eggs)* ? Must call my sister, she'll know. But I'm quite sure it was the first

Hence the old joke:
Q: 'What's half way between a drummer and a musician?'
A: 'A bassist'.

B'Elana - the thing is in western tunings there isn't a *note* called 'H' and therefore no 'H' string. 'H' would be 'A' (or possibly G#).

Just thought : maybe we are talking abbout the same note, but only have different names for it. The octave goes
C
D
E
F
G
A
H
C
then we have the half notes Cis,dis, es,fis, gis,as,and b

So your octave would be c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c ?

Starting from 'C', yes. It follows our alphabet. Does your alphabet go A H C D E F G then?
