h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

My favourite spooky story is the one about the "Cumberland Spaceman". It revolved around a man taking a photo of his daughter in the countryside & he wanted to include grazing cattle in the shot but they wouldn't come anywhere near as if they were frightened. He took the photo anyway but when it was developed he was shocked to find that behind the girl was what looked like a ghostly spaceman. He was later visited by MoD investigator who initially confiscated the film. This was at the time Britain was experimenting with rocket technology (a nearby base was involved in this research), & of all the resulting tests & launches (carried out in Australia I think?) one was aborted after strange lights buzzed the launchpad & (AND...) the ghostly spaceman was seen!

I'm sure the story's been embellished over the years but there are facts to back it up, & its slightly disturbing surrealism always makes me smile.

well i can confirm that mystical & lifs flat is a hot spot for spirits, theres an old man who told me his name was henry aged 80 when he passed over & he,d lived there for most of his life, he died some time in the 40s-50s, theres a little girl about 7-8 yrs shes very shy so does,nt talk but ive heard her running & skipping & 1 night she was stroking my hair before i went to sleep, theres a young boy about 12-13 yrs old he does,nt talk but he likes to play the joker 1 & play tricks on ppl,

my last night there was the strangest most of the night there was activity from these 3 spirits then about 2.30am mystical & lif went to bed, i got down on the sofa to sleep, but sleep was the last thing i got, 1st the young boy started tickling my feet to keep me awake then there was banging, running, the front door opened & shut a few times & in mystical & lifs room it sounded as if the window was being opened & shut, the landing light which does,nt work switched on for a few minutes, then they must have decided to party in style because the room i was in, just literally lit up with hundreds of orbs, each 1 in turn kept flasing a brilliant blue light, finally about 6am peace resumed & i managed to get a few hrs sleep before going back to manchester

All this talk of spirits & goolies (sorry, "ghoulies" ) reminds me of a book I once read called "The Scole Experiment" which documented a series of seances performed under near-scientific conditions (Randi sceptics should note the "NEAR") But whatever your beliefs may be the results are astonishing! Its either scientific proof of the spirit world or one of the greatest hoaxes of all time. Personally I'm not sure, the reason given for closing the experiment (interference by an entity from the future) requires one hell of a leap of faith, but judge for yourselves, as they say

Annoyingly, there's no reference to it on h2g2 or the bbc (well not that I can find) but any interested parties with web access are only a click-&-a-search away from numerous sites, & failing that, you could be old-fashioned like me & read the book.

one little point i can add is that, while we're trying to post related BBC links [the only website, with CNN, accessible to the digibox at the mo'] when possible or/and time permitting , we would welcome titles of books as well... not a bad idea at all there

When I was 6 years of age I had a very frightening dream of leaving another planet and dimension and coming here on earth against my will. Ever since then I have had dreams of alien people beckoning me to come back with them saying that I do not belong here and they are my real kith and kin. I always refused saying that they are the ones who abandonded me on this planet and as I got so used to their ways I am not leaving. Long before I heard about wormholes I would have a dream of being pulled through some sort of vortex/wormhole like you see in Stargate (this was in the early 70's) to another planet/dimension)

I hope you do not think I am strange for telling you this. Ghia only my parents can see through their third eye but I cannot even though I have tried several times.

I have also have had very vivid dreams of finding myself in various types of very futuristic world and feeling very much at home living with very technology advanced societies where interstellar travel is as common as bus/rail/air/sea/ as is to us.

as i dont take much notice of dream........unless i know they are a msg of some sort from the spirit world..........i dont think i can comment on your dreams

but as for the third eye here is a little exercise for any 1 to do.......most people are able to see through the third eye but they just dont realise it

sit down comfortably & relax, look intently at a object for at least 5 mins, then close eyes the image you see once the eyes are closed is the same object but you will see it differently

if this simple exercise is repeated often once the eyes are closed whatever object you are seeing will become clearer each time
