Hi, I checked out the writing guidelines and amazingly this appeared to fill them, I was thinking though maybe I need some statistics, do you know where I can find some?

It fills them all except for the ban on first person. Take out all references to yourself and it's set.

Yeah, apart from the 1st person references (the first and last lines, basicly [oh, and you don't need to sign it]) its great! And someone that actually reads the guidelines before submiting to PR! smiley - smiley That's great too! smiley - smiley

I would cut out the first sentance altogether. It's hardly factual and I'm sure the sub-eds will delete it if it gets that far.

I would also suggest a change to the title to Sleeping. Napping sugests something different to preparing yourself for a comfortable nights sleep in a warm soft bed which is what the article is about. Napping suggests taking a quick 40 winks whenever the time and place is convenient, something that I consider myself an expert at. smiley - smiley

I can understand the need for water, clock, tissues and easy access to the toilets, but have never found the need to take a rock to bed with me. In fact I have spent considerable time in the past getting rid of them. You wouldn't care to elaborate would you? I would think a rock would be the last thing I would want anywhere near me when sleeping, unless you are planning to throw it at somebody.

Talking about sleeping, its time I did some. Having just come of the night shift I need to prepare myself for Saturday night.

I enjoyed it and thought it was good - I agree that perhaps sleeping would be a more appropriate title... and also wonder what exactly the rock is for - perhaps a little more elaboration there?

The Sleep Foundation have a website that might be worth a look or a link - I think it's www.sleepfoundation.org but if not a quick google search should find it.

My final suggestion is that if you have trouble with your sleep being disrupted by waking up in the night needing to use the toilet, to avoid drinking in the 2 hours before going to bed. Someone else gave me that advice and it worked wonders for me. It's harder than it sounds though as sometimes the time comes to go to bed and you can't sleep because your mouth is too dry, particularly if you've been eating pizza - so you're forced to down the water and face the consequences... Of course, a bit of planning can get you round this but who's that well-organised???

Ah! I just did a quick h2g2 search on Sleep, looking for anything else that might be some help, and discovered that there's already a pretty similar entry - A590799: How to get a Good Night's Sleep.

I hope this isn't too discouraging. For one thing, your article is easily good enough to get into the Edited Guide with a couple of tweaks, so hopefully you will find it pretty easy writing your next one. Also, there are some things in your article that aren't in A590799 which I think would be good additions to it.

I've not been using h2g2 long enough to know how you go about asking to add things to existing entries in the Edited Guide, though. Maybe a nice Scout will be along in a minute to tell us?

You can remove the entry from Peer Review by going to the Peer Review page. Finding you entry and clicking on the asterisk next to it. You will then get the option to remove.

This doesn't delete the article. It is still avalable to anyone doing a search on sleeping.

I would still be interested in hearing what the stone has to do with it though.

You might like to consider an article on Napping peoperly, as in cat-napping, or how to sleap on a clothes line.

Where do the statistics in paragraph 1 come from? Neither I, nor both Old Spice and our KGB neighbours have ever admitted such a thing.

Loose talk costs lives, you know.

I dunno, but as a shift worker I can believe it!

There's an excellent book called Sleep Thieves by a bloke called Professor Stanley Coren - if it didn't come from there it's the kind of place where you'd find it... it's the kind of book that everyone should read. Once.

There are a couple of entries that might be worth linking to from here: A188101 is an edited entry on sleep, but it's pretty different from this one; this one's more about how to sleep well. A196328 is about dreams.

I'm a little puzzled about the rock... what size rock are we talking about here? Otherwise, I like the entry quite a lot. smiley - ok

I dunno, but when it's hot it's nice to have something cold to rest your hand on by your bed, it kinda gives you something to focus on and stops your brain for fuzzing everywhere and stopping you sleeping. Meditation does the same job but it takes longer....
smiley - biggrin Glad you like it!
