Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Cheerful Dragon Posted Dec 20, 2004
Well, I hate to cast doubt on your theory, but I have never had a really bad attack in Spring or Fall. My worst attacks (including my first) have been in Winter, and my current attack, which has lasted about 5-6 months and is a bad one, started in Summer. Oh, and I suffer from hay fever and from asthma that was brought on by an allergic reaction, so if there was a link between allergies and MS I'd have thought that would show.

My Dr does not see it that way either.
I think there was a recent large study that downplayed the parallels link. I figured I have always heard about the 42nd (is it?) because I have always lived near it so it is generational folklore by now.
It sure helps to recognise patterns and vulnerable times. I have found eliminating or changing the smallest every day or weekly stressors to be the best help. If you cannot go big try small
Being unpredictable is the only prediction most can make.

ARG!
Yes!
I pulled all of my teeth in hopes it would go.
Helped partly because the nerves were mysteriously inflammed without infection most times. I had double nerves into my teeth, not rare but did not help in this case.
Some pain was relieved due to my TMJs being realigned with new teeth comes a new bite ( old one returned) This in turn realigned the muscles extending out from there (over the top of head and down the neck) That realignment process hurt like heck (on me) and took about 6 weeks for the muscles to settle down. In the end it helped the facial and jaw pain and weakness in my jaw by half or more.
I am hopelessly out of alignment anyway so it was risky. They were afraid I would have less jaw (chewing)power after dentures >> their main warning and was a concern because I am under weight.
So.....all in all for Me it was a good move. Not one medically strongly supported it but they both said maybe it is worth a try. Just goes to show you we know our own bodies best usually. I also gained a few pounds
I had infections in my sinuses which gave me some facial pain.
Not had a single infection since the removal.
Stopping infections was equal or greater to the hope of losing the pain. My spine and nuero complaints would get worse each time I had an infection and it would stay with me. I was desperate for my immune system to get a break.
Trigeninal nueralgia -
It is a 3 branced nerve in the face.
You could look on a nerve chart and know immediately if it is those nerves. They are quite specific and naughty pains of precise location.
Infections, severe stress are big causes.
A wind or hair can get some facial pains going and there is a specific word for a highly irritable nerve but I forget it
Since you are newer to the Nation maybe I should state I do not have MS. I am slowing demyelinating progressively due to being struck by lightning. It fried the myelin and muscle in and around my upper cord. I had polio as kid and that is revisiting me possibly, but that is one for Dr.'s to argue about.
I'll spare you the details of the other maladies
AND I need to practice brevity!

I hope that works.
I tried nuerontin for nerve pain.
They use it a lot here and successfully.
Although I had intolerable side effects
It helps many people.
You have my sympathy facial pain.

Shifty, hope you are getting some relief now. I imagine your face pain is similiar to what i get in my legs, feels like being stabbed, lightning pain then shoots up the nerve pathway and can end up in my head or in fact anywhere, unpredictable, disconcerting, inconvenient and bloody agonising!
In my case, all i can do is take soluble paracetomol to damp it down a bit. I find stress definitely triggers bad attacks, be it emotional or physical stuff, the former you can't often do much about, the latter i try and realise that with determination i usually *can* do stuff if i have to BUT will pay the price later. It's sometimes very difficult for those around you who don't have this to realise and accept it when you say " no can do, sorry" if you seemed Ok the day before, or even minutes before, there is a finite level of energy, " you can't get blood out of a turnip" as JEllen once said!
As to the climate thing, i lived in hot countries for years and didn't have problems, but who knows whether i actually *had* this then or not? My mother was misdiagnosed as having polio when she was pregnant with me, it later turned out to be psitticosis, luckily for me my dad refused to have me aborted whilst my mother was in a coma.
I find either extreme heat OR cold will often trigger attacks, but keeping your home at just the right temperature is bloody expensive!

Hmm is it the 42parallel?
With the answer to all being 42 you would think the theory about the 42 parallel -MS line is true
Hi Terri- I am half way to all right if my temperature is good.
Seems to be a key for me as well.

Yea! Shifty I get that pain down the right side of my face when I take a really bad head-ache
It starts above the eye and goes down right into my teeth
all I can do is crawl away into a quiet dark room and lay down
Mind you, its hard to find a quiet room living here, with noise from above and next door Boy! I cant wait to get out of this flat

Oh smudger do take it easy today.
I am glad the kids that come here are older these days.
I do miss seeing little ones and babies.
I imagine they will be bringing their own small children within a few years.
It amuses me the teenage boys rarely sit down to talk.
BUT if I am on the computer they will stand and talk ,returning every few minutes....Had the same page on for hours, don't think they noticedI was just waiting for the next mini-chat.
The girls want to sit close, have eye contact with no diversions and talk ,talk, talk.
I enjoy them all
