Hi shifty - are you also Happy - the second poster?

How are you?
Shifty I think it was you I saw on a couple threads, mentioning that MS was affecting your posting. Would you care to talk about how it is affecting you?
I know I did not understand at the time.

Do you have the laughing-crying syndrome by any chance?
Quite an odd thing ,fairly common.
No need to respond but please feel free to if you like.

*******

I am pretty good.
Like to be better.
Glad I am not worse.

Terri is having a difficult time right now in several ways.

Animal was gone due to computer problems but is now backsmiley - ok
Oh wow speaking of animal I wonder if he has been asked if he'd like to joing the Nation? smiley - eureka He has some spinal issues, though not MS, as with myself. Nuerological symptoms are caused by so many things.

I was hoping Pedboy would show up to say hello, he was not doing well at all the last time he was around.

*waves*

Is the laughing/crying thing that you sometimes do the opposite of what you are "supposed" to do? I quite often laugh in painful, sad type situations, such as funerals or splitting up with someone; it obviously gets misinterpreted, but it's really a form of hysteria i suppose.

Here are a couple links about it.
Not sure if they will work - I am subscribed so many places that I am never sure....

It is still not totally understood but appears in a number of nuerological conditions.

http://api.ingentaconnect.com/content/arn/ms/1999/00000005/00000002/3500453a

MS
Avanir Pharmaceuticals of San Diego has permission from the Food and Drug Administration to begin testing a newly developed drug combination to treat uncontrollable outbursts of crying and laughing that affect some people with ALS. The outbursts aren't experienced as emotional and are thought to be due to abnormal transmission of impulses in the brain.

ALS

http://www.cnsonline.org/trials/treatment.html

new trials for Pseudobulbar Affect is a condition characterized by frequent episodes of inappropriate laughing or crying that are out of proportion to the situation at hand.

The basic mechanisms underlying emotional control are unknown. Lesions in a variety of areas of the brain, including the frontal and temporal lobes, have been associated with the occurrence of pathological laughing and crying. Conceptually, it may be useful to think of pseudobulbar affect as an example of a disconnection syndrome which interrupts the normal integration of cortical and brain stem functions.

One of the worst things is i actually am fully aware that i should NOT be laughing, i am actually feeling the opposite; but for some reason the emotion goes to the wrong place...maybe stand up comics have this syndrome? But it is hurtful if another person is involved, they feel you are taking the p**s and in fact, that's the last thing you are doing, in actuality you are affected so strongly by what's happening you have got jolted into..dunno, improbablity drive, a sort of disasociation, temporary madness.

Oh sod it, we are all raving nutters; let's accept it and enjoy it!

That must be very frustrating for you.

The experts are not in agreement. No surprise huh?smiley - smileyIt was a symptom I was glad to see mentioned the first time I ran across it even though there is no solution yet.

I really do Not want to discuss other researchers here. It is a safe place for De Myelin Nation talk. I would like to keep it safe and peaceful. I hope it is a good thing you could talk about this particular MS symptom of yours shifty.

Happy trails to yousmiley - musicalnote and maybe see you again soon.

smiley - goodluck tig!! Not easy cutting back on the good things in life is it?

Have they put you on a specfically low cholesterol diet? My ex was told categorically "Your BP/ cholesterol is massively over the top, you need to go on horrible drugs now or you will die"; i said "give me a month with sorting his diet out instead" When he went back, his BP was near normal & cholesterol less than the norm. And he wasn't hungry or feeling deprived. Let me know if this might work for you.
