Overheard in Boston's Public Gardens:
"I hate Spring, especially when those annoying people crowd onto the Swanboats and start sailing around in circles. All I want to do is bury my head in the water and try to pretend they don't exist."

It might not be a swan, of course. It might be a goose. It might even be *Mother* Goose.
Old Mother Goose, she's on the loose.

I think the Loch Ness Monster is in fact feathered.
Discuss.
OK it isn't.
I used to listen to this amazing song by Kaleidoscope called The Feathered Tiger. It was about this chap who had a weird dream in a zoo. Actually, I'm going to listen to it again, which is a marginally interesting fact. I'm happy to have remembered The Feathered Tiger.
I wonder how long swans/geese can keep their heads underwater like that?
How do birds breathe?

if the bird were a swan, and if it were near the Swanboats in Boston, breathing would be affected by the local air, which is not as clean as it might be in Tibet or Wyoming.
"Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly,
But they don't last long when they try."
--Tom Lehrer

"I see no ships" The film director's got it wrong I'm sure Nelson didn't stick his head under the water ?
(It was at the Battle of Copenhagen that Nelson held his telescope to his blind eye, saying, "I see no ships" before he disobeyed order)

heheh, I like it Prof. I see no ships. I didn't know that about Nelson, re the telescope, blind eye.
Live and learn, eh? Crafty fellow.
So birds have lungs? And they have nostrils, usually at the base of the bill. Now I'm learning all by myself. . Well that is extraordinary. OK so I know nothing, but learning at senior smiley stage in life makes the world seem somehow marvelous.
Now I will think about birds breathing.
Do you spell marvellous with one l or two? My spell check keeps putting a squiggly red line under marvellous, which is unfortunate because I quite often find the world marvellous, when perhaps it should be marvelous.
